James Maddison has heaped praise on Tottenham teammate Yves Bissouma following their impressive win over Everton on Saturday.
Tottenham didn’t have the best of starts to the new Premier League season as they played out a draw in their first outing against newly promoted Leicester City. Despite dominating the proceedings, they ended up dropping points. However, the North London club have managed to bounce back with a sensational performance against Everton as they found the back of the net on four occasions and even kept a clean sheet.
It was a complete performance from Ange Postecoglou’s team and their attacking sensation James Maddison was full of praise for his teammate Yves Bissouma who made his first start of the season after missing out on their opening game because of disciplinary reasons.
The England international said via BBC: “The scoreline is quite devastating when you look at 4-0,”
“I think we thoroughly deserved it. We dominated and we felt we should have had three points last Monday [against Leicester].
“We all know Yves’ [Bissouma] ability. He is a ridiculous player at times. He has got a skill not many have. The gaffer is a great man with good morals. He [Yves] has to keep working hard.
“The performance was there on Monday. It was a case of not putting our chances away. It’s important you try and put into practice what the manager wants. It’s about us trusting him.”
Tottenham’s biggest problem against the Foxes was that they didn’t take their chances. But, in the game against the Toffees, Bissouma opened the scoring in the 14th minute with an exceptional effort from the edge of the box. Once they had the lead, Spurs managed to build on it and ended up securing an easy win which has helped them claim four points out of their first two league games.
Maddison was in awe of his teammate’s abilities both on and off the ball. He lauded Bissouma for his performance and has urged him to keep working hard. Despite initial doubts about him being the go-to man in midfield, the 27-year-old’s standout performance against Everton clearly demonstrates why Postecoglou has full confidence in him.
