Jack Pitt-Brooke reveals which positions Tottenham wants to upgrade this summer

By Eddie Razo -

Despite being in the middle of a top-four race, Tottenham Hotspur does have their eyes on the summer transfer window and what they need to do to improve the squad for the 2022-23 season.

The Athletic’s Jack Pitt-Brooke states that Spurs have the left-sided center-back position at the top of their list of areas they want to address. Despite having Ben Davies in that role, Pitt-Brooke adds that the north London club wants an upgrade.

“The first priority for Tottenham this summer is a left-sided center-back. Ben Davies has done well under Conte, but they are looking for an upgrade at that position to play alongside Cristian Romero and Eric Dier,” Pitt-Brooke states.

Tottenham wants to see an upgrade are the wing-backs when it comes to the second position. They were shopping during the January transfer window, hoping to land Adama Traoré from Wolverhampton Wanderers to have him play one of those roles in Antonio Conte’s system.

However, Spurs’ inability to close out the deal resulted in FC Barcelona coming in and grabbing the player right from under the north London club. Nonetheless, they now want an upgrade in both positions.

“The next priority will be two new wing-backs — one on the left, one on the right. These positions are obviously integral to how Tottenham play under Conte, but they do not have fully satisfactory solutions on either side,” Pitt-Brooke said.

“They wanted a right wing-back in January but have gone back to Matt Doherty now, while neither of Ryan Sessegnon and Sergio Reguilon has been able to put together a truly convincing run of form on the left.”

Finally, the third area on the squad Tottenham wants to upgrade is finding a backup striker to take some of the goal-scoring responsibility from Harry Kane.

“Then there is the perennial challenge of a backup to Harry Kane. Spurs have not had one since Carlos Vinicius’ loan from Benfica ended at the end of last season. It is not an easy position to shop in, but they do need someone,” Pitt-Brooke said.

Very good point. I imagine you have been looking at the implosion of Evergrande, the largest Chinese property company. I also noticed the recent remarks of a Fed reserve governor who was looking to buy a house in Washington but found that the prices were exorbitant and he declared that they had lost touch with reality. Be fearful when others are greedy and greedy when others are fearful. There will be trouble ahead!

Not to stray too far from the pitch but have a look at how the massive Chinese property bubble is now imploding to get an idea what’s in store in a few months for our insipid property manager.

The actions of a aggressive conquerer. No improvement on the Saudis in any capacity.

Fans seem more interested in LGBT or whatever it’s called affairs than serious issues. Not only has that scumbag Lewis bought enormous tracts of land in Patagonia with the help of corrupt Argie politicians but he has denuded the locals of their water rights and closed off access roads for them. He also controls the electrical supply and the local airport. I hardly think he’s much of an improvement on the Saudis.

Great points from you both. The Patagonia incident is shameful and we have no morale high ground here. Our fans should concentrate on the erosion of the team and the gentrification of the WHL area under ENIC. History is being destroyed without a whimper from the masses.

jolly bloody well put. Add in his summer camp zionist idf military maneuvers and likely complicity in local murder(s) and there’s a ready made home case to be answered before high horsing anyone, long-suffering geordies or otherwisers

Lazzari and Hickey from the Serie A are both linked and look decent. Many to choose from, and there should be no excuses. It needs to be sorted out this summer or Conte is definitely off

Basically the whole team aside from Kane, Son and Romero. Then put most of the current players on the bench to give the squad depth. Then we might actually win something.

Levy doesn’t have the cojones to do what is needed so there will be more of the sticking plaster approach he has always used. To really refresh the squad would take much more money than Levy is prepared to spend. It is hard to estimate how much it would cost but oven ready players for the PL cost serious money. Why spend circa £50 million on a player when you can buy a hotel or a block of flats for that? Quite simply, we are a property company masquerading as a professional football club. S&P Global Ratings has estimated that the London property market is overvalued to the tune of 50%. Perhaps a London property crash, not unthinkable, might bring about his downfall/
Going off piste for a moment, I have read that Spurs supporters are going to protest against the ownership of Newcastle at today’s game. This begs two questions.

  1. Why are they not protesting against the ownership of our club, surely a more rewarding and worthwhile experience?
  2. Is Joe Lewis any more a suitable owner than the Saudis? He engineered a currency collapse in the Argentinian peso causing sky high interest rates and inflation and then used his power and influence with corrupt Argentinian politicians to accrue more land in Patagonia from the indigenous people. As much a charmer as the Saudis!

Add a creative midfielder to that list. If we’re gonna have any chance of competing for anything at all we need at least 5 class signings

Out; Dumbelly, Doherty, Winks, PEH, Sanchez, Bergwjin, Moura. Rodon loan out.

Unless that happens and some upgrades come in we are just treading water for yet another season. As I understand it, we still have to pay out significantly to sign Romero, Kulusevski and Betty permanently. So how much will be left to actually improve on what we currently have remains to be seen…

Don’t understand what’s happened to Reggie, he looked like the real deal when he came in. A couple of seasons at Failure FC has taken the wind of his sails.

Dier has been saying that it’s “easy” to become complacent at Spurs because of the great infrastructure stadium, training ground etc. That is very worrying to hear, what sort of culture is at the club? A culture of failure…
