“I’ve never seen” – Gary Neville slams two Spurs defenders for their woeful performances in the World Cup this year

By Mehdi Gokal -

Gary Neville has slammed two Spurs players for their performance in this year’s World Cup in Qatar.

He criticised Ben Davies and Joe Rodon for not being good enough for Wales in the defense.

Davies has been an important part of Wales, and he started the tournament on the left side of a back three before switching to left-back against England.

Rodon, meanwhile, was loaned out to Rennes in the summer in search of some game time before the World Cup, but he appeared out of form and confidence for his country.

And the former Manchester United full-back turned pundit singled out the Spurs duo’s poor performances in the World Cup, particularly in their 2-0 loss to Iran.

Speaking on the Gary Neville’s World Cup Podcast on Youtube (via TBR), he said:

“The back players are not good enough.

“We saw that against Iran. I’ve never seen a back three get pulled around so much.

“That’s why Rob Page went with a back four against England. The back three against Iran were getting pulled from pillar to post, crossing over all the time.”

Neville stated in another interview that he was disappointed with Wales overall because they finished the tournament with only one point and one goal.

Joe Rodon’s performance will have done little to persuade Antonio Conte to keep him in his plans after his loan spell with Rennes comes to an end, whereas Ben Davies will be hoping to recover quickly from the World Cup disappointment and return to action with Spurs to help them finish top four and push for a silverware this season.
