Christian Eriksen has been offered a deal by Tottenham Hotspur, which as it stands, would effectively end his top flight career with us.
A source close to the club has told the Harry Hotspur blog that Daniel levy and Mauricio Pochettino have prepared a final deal for the Dane which they believe shows the player that he is not just respected, but valued.
The understanding is that whilst THFC obviously knew they were struggling with a few players to commit further, ‘the board’ was somewhat taken aback by Christian’s overseas interviews about pondering pastures new.
For comparison, neither Jan Vertonghen or Toby Alderwiereld went public about their own contractual situations, despite the impasse in negotiations.
The 27-year-old to Danish newspaper, Ekstra Bladet : “I feel that I am a place in my career where I might want to try something new. I have the wildest and deepest respect for everything that has happened at Tottenham – I will not be negative. But I have also said that I would like to try something new.”
This was either a fishing expedition that failed, or a football club that failed to safeguard one of its very best players.
Bottom line here is who would potentially be signing this contract. The Great Dane or the shiftless loser who didn’t bother to show up in our European Cup final against Liverpool?

You rang?!
hahahhahahaha
Sell him, his heart is not here. Whats the point?
Regards Eriksen, it’s all Mr Bungles fault, the whole thing could have been avoided if he’d paid him what he’s worth once he blossomed into a world class player. People slagging off CA and wanting him out have got short memories. Perhaps they’d enjoy being drastically underpaid and expected to be the only playmaker at the club because the owners are too tight to buy another one.
Do you remember that ventriloquist act with Ray Alan and Lord Charles? Well that’s actually Levy and Pooch. Draw your own conclusions about who’s got who’s hand stuffed up the other bum.
We’re being shafted by these two as Pooch is entirely complicit in Mr Bungle’s transfer shenanigans in my opinion. Enic have bought him out. Besides he’s not such a good coach as he thinks he is, anybody who played an obviously unfit Kane whilst benching the semi final hattrick hero, is a few sandwiches short of a picnic.
Pooch blows hot and cold, one minute he’s ranting on about how we have to be brave to compete blah blah, the next he’s saying he’s happy with what Daniel is doing and is always happy grovel, grovel. He’s the reason Danny Rose is being cast out in my opinion, lets face it Argentina probably hasn’t even recognised there is such a thing as mental illness, they probably still lock them away in that country. Can just imagine Pooch wanted rid of such an embarrassment. I don’t trust him, he’s too erratic in what he says and does. He can’t win trophies either.
Sounds like Sessegnon might be close to signing.
Morning, my pet hate is when we lost last seasons against sides who wanted it more. An example is the Burnley game where a 50 50 ball turned out to be a 10 90 ball. Who was that player?
Bob he scored a 96th minute winner against Burnley last season + he is not there to be some kind of Pat van der Hawe or Ben Thatcher, anymore than Eden Hazard is.
Shiftless loser is overstating the case. Flat track bully is a bit more on point. CE can be counted on to pop up and score a winner against a fair number of teams in the division-if you look back you’ll see this is true-but there is a reason neither Barca or Ram is convinced. He represents the contradictions of our team. Good, ever very good. But not great.
Yes, please!!! He’s an extremely talented player, gets almost no rest and very often has too much work to do. No wonder he ran out of steam last season as he was missing dembele in a bad way. Give the man a market rate contract, an occasional rest and some support and he’ll prove his worth.
I’d like to know what this ‘small procedure’ he underwent was? Perhaps that could clue us in to last season’s appalling showing.
If by some happenstance or oversight Christensen is not shipped out this summer he must be in January. In the meantime he must not be anything like an automatic starter for Spurs (first team).
I would have no problem with the Christian Erikssen, who has performed for most the past 5 years, signing that contract. The Great Dane, as you put it, who leads the EPL in several categories, including assists, over that same time period. Clearly one would not want, nor expect, the pale shadow of the same, who sauntered listlessly through much of the back end of last season, including the Champion’s League final.
The greater concern, beyond such a potential ‘statement’ contract for Erikssen, is whither the remainder of the transfer window? Hopefully it is not ‘wither’ the remainder of the transfer window! If Levy and Poch’s idea of being bold and embracing the new era, is to sign Erikssen, maybe Sessegnon to replace Rose and then closing the coffers, then that is about as bold as a 4 pt Times New Roman typeface!
We need new blood. Yes, signing Erikssen would be great, but it is essential if he stays anyway. Signing Toby would be even better! However, we need the likes of a Lo Celso, Zaniolo, Sessegnon, a new young CB, etc, to rejuvenate the squad and challenge on all fronts. I can easily see Levy reverting to type and Poch’s ‘happy clappy’ statement today did not help one bit. To wit: “I told Daniel … that I will be happy with the squad that you are going to provide me to work with. I’m always happy. I’m a happy man, working with 25 players, always … always I was happy and I’m going to be happy. That is my nature.”
The cynic in me tells me that smarmy statement provides almost a classic get out clause for Levy. A ‘carte blanche’ for the now infamous Levy eleventh hour near miss. “They were just being too unreasonable on the price for Lo Celso”, “Fulham weren’t prepared to negotiate on Sessegnon, but we gave it our best shot”, etc, etc. I hope I’m wrong. I hope Lo Celso is not dependent on Erikssen leaving and that, at the least, we can get Sessegnon for Rose and a decent young CB, but true to form, I am not holding my breath!
Christian might have had a shock to see that people are not falling over themselves to sign him. If that re-motivates him I’ll be more than happy if he stays. If he also had to battle Lo Celso for a place even better.
Thing is we never know what goes on. Take Trippier, from the comments made to the media after his move to Spain, it seems he told Poch he wanted to leave rather than Poch decided to get rid.
Poch doesn’t keep people who want to go, but maybe he thinks he can get more out of Christian and is willing to keep him.
If Erik signs does that mean Levy goes scot-free with any other signings..ummm…we need new blood..
Did you do the ‘shpock’ voice when you wrote that?
An update of Leandro Damiao scored for Kawasaki vs Chealski when we gonna have this player? we kept on inquiring him past 8 to 10 years
shiftless loser !
Just saw Jansen and Nk on shpock
