‘it was time to move on’: Former player opens up on Tottenham departure

Former Tottenham Hotspur striker Troy Parrott has now opened up on his departure from the north London club.

The 22-year-old was on loan at Excelsior last season and he managed to score 17 goals in all competitions. He ended up joining AZ Alkmaar on a permanent deal earlier this summer and the striker has revealed that it was the right time for him to leave the London club in search of regular playing time.

“I don’t want to put pressure on myself, but if I play well and help the team, I hope it works out,” he said via SoccerNews.

“I think AZ is a good place where players get the opportunity to develop. I have been at Tottenham for a long time, but it was time to move on.”

Parrott needs to play regularly at this stage of his career and sitting on the bench at Tottenham would not have benefited him.

The striker will look to establish himself as a key player for AZ Alkmaar and continue his development with regular football. He has shown his quality with Excelsior this past season and it remains to be seen whether he can replicate those performances for the Dutch outfit in the upcoming campaign.

Tottenham are already well stocked in the attacking unit and they are looking to bring in a quality goal scorer. They would have struggled to provide Parrott with regular game time in the upcoming campaign, and it makes sense for the two parties to go their separate ways.

Parrott needs to focus on his football with ample first-team exposure, and it remains to be seen whether he can fulfil his potential in the coming season. If he manages to impress with AZ Alkmaar, he will get plenty of opportunities to join big clubs in the near future.
