“It was a foul” – Tottenham star insists the goal should not have stood

By Mehdi Gokal -

Tottenham defender Destiny Udogie insists that Manchester City’s goal should not have stood.

Spurs were knocked out of the FA Cup earlier tonight after Nathan Ake poked home from close range. The goal came after from a Kevin de Bruyne corner which came right in front of the keeper.

Vicario tried to punch it, but Ruben Dias was blocking his way and could only punch it on to Micky van de Ven’s back before Ake scored.

There was a VAR review to check whether the Tottenham goalkeeper was fouled by Dias but the goal was eventually given.

However, the goal remains the talking point of the game, with many claiming that it should not have stood.

Spurs left-back Destiny Udogie has also claimed that he believes it was a foul on Vicario.

Speaking after the game, he said:

“I think from the pitch I saw it was a block on the keeper, so I will watch it back, but I think it was a foul.”

Controversy from that goal aside. Tottenham were quite poor. They gave the ball away too cheaply, and were quite wasteful with it.

The absence of the likes of Yves Bissouma, Pape Matar Sarr, and Heung-min Son proved to be massive.
