Injury set-back for Spurs: Player could be out till November after undergoing surgery

By Mehdi Gokal -

Tottenham’s creative Spaniard Bryan Gil is set to be sidelined till “late October or early November” as per the latest update.

According to The Evening Standard, Gil underwent a surgery for his groin issue which will keep him out of action for a longer period.

Gil has not had an opportunity to impress Ange Postecoglou as yet since he has been injured since the Australian’s arrival.

However, it has been suggested by Alasdair Gold that his versatility, ability and style of play would ‘fit nicely’ into the way Ange wants his players to play.

Gold told Football London:

“Gil can play on either flank. I’m fascinated to see whether he can force his way into Postecoglou’s thinking.“

“There’s a lot of competition now for those wide spots but the little Spaniard will fit nicely into the way the Australian wants his players to play. It’s all about whether he gets the minutes to show it though.”

Bryan Gil’s journey at Tottenham Hotspur has been a mixed bag since joining from Sevilla in 2021.

The talented attacker arrived with high expectations, but under previous manager Antonio Conte, he was not given sufficient opportunities to prove himself, leading to a lack of impact at the club.

Despite the transfer speculation in the summer, Gil expressed his desire to stay at Tottenham and fight for a spot in the team this summer.

Meanwhile, the report also gives an update on other players ahead of the match against Sheffield United.

Lo Celso is a doubt for the match and is expected to be back by 30th September.

Cristian Romero gave Spurs an injury scare against Ecuador but it proved to be just a knock as he started against Bolivia couple of days later. He is expected to start on the weekend.

Ryan Sessegnon and Rodrigo Bentancur continue to be out with long-term injuries.
