Injured Tottenham star provides expected return timeline

By Mehdi Gokal -

Tottenham star James Maddison has given a timeline for his return from injury in latest interview with Ben Foster.

James Maddison has been one of the signings of the season. He joined Spurs from Leicester City for £40m and has proven to be an absolute bargain.

He was one of Tottenham’s best players, scoring 3 and assisting 5 in 11 games, playing a key role in their terrific start to the season that saw them go unbeaten for 10 games, winning 8 and drawing just two.

But the Chelsea game not only handed Spurs their first defeat but also derailed their season as two key players, Maddison and Micky van ve Ven suffered long-term injuries.

Maddison was taken off as a precaution but the injury turned out to be serious than initially thought with him being ruled out for the rest of the year.

And now the England midfielder has given an update on his injury and revealed when he can be expected back.

Speaking to Ben Foster for Amazon Prime Video Sport, he said:

“It’s healing well, it’s a bit of a slow burner which is obviously frustrating because like you said, I started the season so well. But it’s healing, slowly but surely.”

“It’s frustrating, you know what it’s like being injured, everyday is tough, especially at Spurs, the training ground has got the big window so the physio room is just looking perfectly out to the training pitch watching all the lads train and prepare for the games at the minute.

“You have that helpless feeling but it’s recovering well, it’s one of them, it’s going to take a bit of time, you’ve got to just accept it and then crack on with the rehab.”

Foster then asked him if a return would be on the cards in around six or seven week’s time to which Maddison replied: “Yeah, something like that.”

His absence has given Giovani Lo Celso a chance to impress who has come in and done exactly that.

The Argentine midfielder has started the last two games and scored two brilliant goals in each game. He scored the opener with a rocket of a strike against Aston Villa, a game they ended up losing.

And he was on the scoresheet again for Spurs against Manchester City on Sunday, as he scored a brilliant goal from outside the box to make it 2-2.
