Industry Expert: Levy Will Not Budge

By The Boy -

A better than thoughtful piece from Frank Dalleres in City AM this morning.

Daniel Levy’s brinkmanship knows no bounds.

So obsessed is the micromanaging maniac, that the THFC CEO is prepared to start the new Premier League season in a new stadium not just late, but without crucial anchor sponsorship.

It’s interesting that City AM’s valuation of the Spurs’ naming right is £15million upwards – whereas as ENIC’s representative on earth is still demanding £20million per season.

Market stagnation only affects brands that can’t crash through financial trends by being brilliant.

No matter how Levy spins it, Spurs don’t win stuff under him, and therefore are a second class product.

Gotta problem with that?

Dont bore me, take your worthless gripe to Nike who recently agreed a shirt deal with Chelsea Football Club that was in a totally different financial stratosphere to the one agreed with THFC.

“Market stagnation has been particularly acute on some of the bigger-ticket sponsorships and longer-term, high-value ones – which is absolutely where the rights sit,” says Tom Gladstone, director of consulting at Synergy.

“It’s hugely expensive, but also the long-term nature of the deal really limits the number of potential buyers who’d be willing to commit to that kind of investment. Tough macroeconomic conditions, the nature of the opportunity being long-term naming rights deal are two key points. But I think the other one is very high revenue expectations from Mr Levy.”

Industry sources believe Spurs want at least a 10-year deal worth £20m a season and only with the right brand – likely to be consumer-facing rather than financial services or business-to-business.

He’s pretty set on getting the money he thinks it warrants, the right brand partner and the longevity of deal. If one of those three conditions isn’t met, he’s not prepared to budge,” says Gladstone.

Pride before a fall?

You simply could not parody this fiasco.

Thanks Daniel. I always believed that you’d come through!
