Tottenham Hotspur have made a significant move in the transfer market as they have agreed personal terms with goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, according to renowned football journalist Fabrizio Romano.
An official bid for the player is “expected to be accepted” by Vicario’s current club, Empoli, within “the next hours”.
This development comes after Spurs were heavily linked with Brentford shot-stopper David Raya for a long time.
Despite Raya’s desire to join Tottenham, the club’s chairman, Daniel Levy, was reluctant to meet Brentford’s asking price, resulting in a stand-off between the two clubs and the eventual withdrawal of Tottenham from the deal.
However, Tottenham quickly shifted their focus to find alternatives, with journalist Dean Jones reporting that they had already begun their search.
Guglielmo Vicario emerged as one of the goalkeepers under consideration by Spurs, as stated by Paul O’Keefe.
Dean Jones also reported that Spurs had already began their search for his alternatives and Paul O’Keefe reported that Guglielmo Vicario was among the goalkeepers “under consideration” by Tottenham.
Fabrizio Romano has now confirmed that Vicario has agreed to personal terms with Tottenham.
Furthermore, an official bid from Spurs is expected to be accepted by Empoli in the coming hours.
The deal will see Vicario join Tottenham for a fee of €19 million, signing a five-year contract that will keep him at the club until June 2028.
He tweeted:
“Tottenham and Empoli are prepared to complete Guglielmo Vicario deal as the official bid is expected to be accepted in the next hours.
€19m official proposal incoming — and personal terms agreed yesterday on five year deal for Vicario, until June 2028.”

This swift transfer marks Tottenham’s first signing of the summer exclusively under new manager Ange Postecoglou.
The club’s pursuit of a goalkeeper who aligns with Postecoglou’s style of play was a top priority for the manager.
Guglielmo Vicario’s arrival could be one of the many signings as Spurs aim to strengthen their squad ahead of the upcoming season.
