According to Montpellier based outlet Midi Libre, Tottenham are set to make a bid for Montpellier striker Elye Wahi.
The report (as reported by The Spurs Express) claims that the bid will be made in the ‘next few hours’.
The Frenchman has also been linked with a move to Chelsea.
In fact Chelsea have already made a bid for him and the bid was rejected by the club.
Speaking to Midi Libre (via Football 365), Montpellier president Laurent Nicollin about the club’s transfer business and Wahi got a mention.
Nicollin acknowledged Chelsea’s bid but stated:
“The amount offered didn’t meet our expectations.”
He has a contract with Montpellier until the end of the 2025.
He scored 19 goals and assisted 6 other in 33 league appearances last season.
Throughout his senior career, the Montpellier star has scored 32 goals and 9 assists in 91 appearances.
The report claiming an imminent bid from Spurs has been reported by the Montpellier based publication only and no other mainstream outlet seems to have reported. Hence, the report’s reliability can not be acertained.
However, The 20-year-old is highly talented and interest in him is not surprising.
Chelsea’s first bid is said to be €25m hence any bid from Spurs will need to top that.
There are other strikers who have been linked with the club including Lille’s Jonathan David and Eintracht Frankfurt’s Kolo Muani.
In my opinion, even if the report about a bid is true, he would only be a good signing for the future and should not be taken as a Kane replacement.
