“In the next few days” – Tottenham engaged in negotiations with La Liga giants over the signing of 28-year-old

According to journalist Rudy Galetti, Tottenham will continue their talks with Barcelona over the permanent signing of defender Clement Lenglet.

Spurs signed Lenglet on loan from Barcelona last summer and was considered to be a stop-gap signing after the club failed to sign any of their top priority centre-backs.

Although his performances were nothing extraordinary, the club are seemingly interested in signing him on a permanent deal this summer.

They confirmed earlier this month that the player has returned to his parent club after his loan deal came to an end. But according to reports, they are in negotiations with the Spanish club over a long-term move with Barcelona seeking a fee in the region of £13 million and £17 million, which is more than what Spurs are willing to pay for him.

Despite their interest in signing the French defender, Galetti claims that Spurs have no intention of engaging in prolonged negotiations with Barcelona over him and already have alternative options identified.

Rudy Galetti told GiveMeSport:

“The talks will also continue in the next few days, even if Tottenham Hotspur have no intention of holding long negotiation as they do have other possible names on their list of centre-backs.”

Signing a top class defender remains on top of Tottenham’s list of priorities along with a goalkeeper.

The goalkeeping position seems to have been sorted out with Empoli’s Guglielmo Vicario reportedly on the verge of signing for the North London club.

They have been linked with several centre-backs as well including Manchester United’s Harry Maguire, Wolves’ Max Kilman and Wolfsburg’s Micky van de Ven.

It remains to be seen whether they reach an agreement with Barcelona over the Frenchman but regardless, a new centre-back is certain to be signed by Spurs.
