Italian journalist Rudy Galetti has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur see Lille striker Jonathan David as a potential replacement for Harry Kane, should the England striker depart this summer.
The ongoing transfer saga surrounding Kane has prompted Spurs to consider contingency plans, and Jonathan David has emerged as a strong candidate for the club.
Recent reports suggest that Tottenham are becoming more open to selling Kane to avoid the risk of losing him on a free transfer next year.
Daniel Levy has made his stance clear that either Kane signs a new contract or will be sold this summer.
The situation has been further fueled by reports of Kane’s wife scouting houses and schools in Munich, indicating the possibility of his exit from the club.
According to Galetti, Spurs believe that David would be available for a reasonable fee, estimated to be around €50 million to €55 million. While Tottenham would prefer to retain Kane, they are prepared to explore the option of signing Jonathan David in more detail in the coming days.
He told GiveMeSport:
“Jonathan David, the Canadian player, is considered a really good option with a fair price set at around €50m to €55m. Tottenham would like to keep Kane, but David represents a valid alternative, who in the next days, will be explored in more detail.”
Jonathan David’s impressive performance last season, where he scored 26 goals across all competitions.
He signed for Lille in 2020 and since then has made 136 appearances for them, scoring 58 goals and assisting 9.
The 23-year-old Canadian striker is viewed as a fantastic long-term addition to the squad.
As the transfer window progresses, Tottenham Hotspur’s plans may take shape depending on the outcome of the Harry Kane transfer situation.
