“important to have him” – Ange’s latest comments suggests out of favour Spurs man has a future at the club

By Mehdi Gokal -

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has hinted that Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg could be in his plans for this season.

Hojbjerg replaced Yves Bissouma in the midfield after the Mali international picked up a red card against Luton.

He deputised well in Bissouma’s absence and put in defensively solid performance in the middle of the pitch.

And his performance was praised by Ange Postecoglou who claimed that he has been good in every game he has played so far.

He acknowledged his contribution in both the goals and suggested that it is important to have him in the midfield.

He said (via Ham & High):

“I thought Pierre was good and he’s been good in every game he’s played for us and he’s been put in some difficult situations and handled them well, he’s very experienced.

“I thought in the first half in particular we stayed calm on the ball and had some good tempo. Like I said I thought our pressing was outstanding all game and I thought he was a big part of that.

“He made interceptions for both goals and yeah it was important to have him in there, his experience coming in because Bissouma has been very important for us and in such a crucial role but I thought he was excellent.”

Despite Hojbjerg being linked with a move away in January, it is very much possible that Spurs decide to keep him for the rest of the season.

Ange’s comments suggest that he has impressed the Australian whenever he has played with the manager admitting that he is important for the team.

With Spurs already short in depth in the position and could be without both Bissouma and Sarr for several weeks starting January, they could really do with someone of his experience in the team.
