“I’m told…”: Journalist suggests 27-year-old might not be at Tottenham next season

By Saikat -

Tottenham Hotspur signed Timo Werner on loan from RB Leipzig during the January transfer window.

The 27-year-old has proven himself to be a useful player for the North London club so far and he has picked up two assists across all competitions.

Tottenham have an option to sign the player permanently at the end of the season but Dean Jones has now suggested that the German international might not be at the club next season.

The journalist has revealed to Give Me Sport that Spurs are prioritising a winger instead of a striker at the end of the season and therefore keeping Werner at the club might not make sense for them.

The London outfit are happy for Richarlison and Son Heung-min to take up the goalscoring responsibility. They are looking to bring in quality wide players in the summer and they want long-term additions.

“They are definitely in the market for a winger, more than they are in the market for a striker at this moment in time.

“I’m told that they will be happy for Richarlison and Heung-min Son to continue competing for that central role, and then they just want good variations around them.

“Obviously, they have got options right now, but it is very much up in the air whether Timo Werner will stay or not. You would probably err on the side of not, at the moment.

“Either way, I think Tottenham still might look to get somebody else in for the longer-term.”

Although Werner can play in the wide areas, he is more suited to a central role. In addition to that, he is unlikely to be a regular starter for Tottenham. Therefore, moving on would be ideal for the player as well.

The 27-year-old attacker needs to play regularly at this stage of his career, and it will be interesting to see where he ends up. He does not have a long-term future at RB Leipzig either. The German outfit should look to sell the player permanently in the summer.

As for Tottenham, it will be interesting to see if they can beef up their attacking options in the summer and push for major trophies next season.
