“I’m my own biggest critic” – Harry Kane acknowledges his poor form to start the Premier League season

By Eddie Razo -

The 2021-22 season hasn’t gone off the way that Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane has hoped, as he has six goals in ten appearances for the north London-based club. However, the 28-year-old has yet to score a goal in the Premier League.

In an interview with ITV (via Daily Mail), Kane admits his form has not been at the level many expect in the past few weeks, but he promised to turn it around. All summer, the England national team captain saw his name connected to Manchester City, but a move never materialized.

As a result, Kane had to dwell on a move that never occurred, coming to grips that he’ll remain with Tottenham for this season.

“It’s natural that people think like that; people are entitled to their opinion,” Kane said. “At the end of the day, I’m my own biggest critic and put pressure on me to perform. Everyone who knows me knows I’m confident whenever I’m playing.”

“I’m as clear as anything, a lot of noise around me; when you’re a high-level sportsman, you could expect that. Performances for club and country maybe haven’t been there last few weeks, but I’m confident in my ability – sometimes that’s just the way it goes.”

After Tuesday’s World Cup qualifier, ex-Arsenal striker Ian Wright said to ITV that the 28-year-old does not seem sharp.

“At the moment, he’s not playing well. He doesn’t look sharp,’ Wright said. “He’s an elite striker, and when he’s playing like this, you are going to answer questions,” Wright said.

“But he doesn’t seem sharp – these instances where he should be staying onside, to get the opportunity, but [Kane’s] going deep, and at the moment, he doesn’t seem at the right place.”

It will be interesting to see whether this international break kick starts Kane’s form as Tottenham can’t contend for a top-four finish without Kane playing a vital role.

Strange, because last night at no point did he DEMAND the ball (a la Ronaldo) or make any attempt to influence the game. Very odd.
