Tottenham will look to return to winning ways when they square up against rivals Arsenal in the North London derby after the end of the international break.

While Tottenham haven’t been at their best in the initial phase of the new season, their skipper Son Heung-min has made an impressive start with two goals in their first three league outings.

Ange Postecoglou will be focused on getting things back on track but there are other major issues that the club needs to address in the coming days. They need to sort out the long-term future of their captain and during a Q&A session with fans on Football.London, Alasdair Gold was asked whether the South Korean international would be offered a new contract.

While speaking to the fans, the Tottenham correspondent said: “I would hope so. Spurs know how much he means to them, he’s still a wonderful player in his 30s as well as their biggest star and Son seems to be relishing being the captain. The club have got the security of the extra year option but it’s a deal that surely gets done if both parties want it.”

Son has been one of the mainstays at the club over the years. Since the departure of Harry Kane in the summer of 2023, he has taken over as the skipper and seems to be relishing it. While the left-winger is still going strong, he is already 32 and his contract runs out in less than 12 months.

The North London club do not need to panic as they have the option to extend his stay by another year but it will depend on both parties reaching a common ground. Gold hopes Spurs will look to offer him a new deal altogether as he still is at the top of his game and could surely be around for a few more years.
