Identity Crisis XI 0 Leicester City 2

By The Boy -

This was less a ‘bad day at the office’ as a Personal Day, where Spurs didn’t show up and the reason is buried somewhere in the confidential depths of HR. José Mourinho described it as a strange game, and if one steps back from what was in the main tough viewing, the Foxes won via unconventional routes, a penalty and an own goal.

That said, the penalty was entirely justified, another unwelcome addition to the Serge Aurier blooper reel which many of us had kinda hoped was a thing of the past, done with. The own goal was also – like most own goals – the product of pressure. So no violins on either front.

Mourinho also told the BBC that it wasn’t a “big” game with neither side “playing very well” which is at best delusional. Leicester City pressed more convincingly and ultimately took all the points. Tottenham took none of the points. Whilst I remain a fervent Mourinho fan-boy, this type of reply is worrisome.

Stoke next, swiftly followed by Wolves away, if memory serves.

Spot on man… It’s a good job all these snowflake fans don’t actually play for us.. Otherwise we’d be doomed.

No need to flap just yet.. Whats important is how everyone reacts in the next few games. We are still in every competition.

There is always a glimmer of hope when you have quality players. And a proven manager to be fair. But if the “team totalt of 75 passes during 90 mins”-tactics continues these quality players won`t be able to do what they are best at: play football.

Its well reported that Woodward was spending most of that money. And he was selling players jose wanted to keep. And blocking his targets. And buying players he didnt want! This is why it all turned sour.. Yet he still won cups. Including the europa league at the very first time of asking.. 2nd in the league too.. Considering we got Kane and Son and Hugo and arguably the most successful manager of all time do you not expect silverware? He’s won everywhere he’s been.

Of course. And took them up to second in the prem. And he wasn’t backed, everyone knows Woodward was blocking his transfers and buying and selling against his will. It’s no coincidence that Manure have been underachieving under Woodward since Sir Alex retired.. Maureens job before that he won the league with Chelsea again in his second spell.. Before that he was breaking records winning at Real Madrid scoring more in a season than any club ever.. He’s been winning in the two toughest leagues in the world in the present time. Only Pep has won more titles in this era and he spent alot of time in Germany at Bayern which is only a 2 or 3 horse race. Maureen knows his tactics he’s proved that all his career… Levy tried to sign him repeatedly over the years and stares at him like he’s in love so Spurs fans should expect the portugese to be around for a good while yet… Liverpool are the favourites as they have been all along, but we’re still dark horses.. Two bad results in games of fine margins and we have been knocked back.. No need to panic just yet, we put together another 16 games unbeaten run and we are right back up with them. We are only 6 points off top and everyones crying like we’re the Gooners.

Much improved from the demotivated, under funded and especially the post-C.L final squad that led to Poch losing his job? Probably, but from where we were two years ago?

We are going backwards and under Jose back into the dark ages football wise, while other teams play with pressing and attacking vigour. Oh, and beat us doing it.

I think it’s telling that both Rodgers and Lampard have both worked under Jose during his successful years, yet neither have adopted his tactical approach as managers at all…

This is anti-football and most definitely anti-Spurs football. Jose is not the right man for Spurs and I’ve said it all along as have many others. Perhaps the penny might start to drop soon…

Another League Cup like the last time we won something in 08? What sort of progress is that?

To four and a ‘cup’. In my opinion, top 4 winning the League Cup is only going one better than Poch and playing sh*te football. Hardly exciting is it…

You’re clutching at straws, a few wins will only paper over the cracks. I’m concerned that top 4 might even end up a struggle…

I agree but I’m sorry, I feel I’m missing something here. Jose is s decorated manager who should know this stuff, so why isn’t it happening?

My bad, I was mistaken. It was the mighty League Cup Mou won with MU, not the Fa Cup. After spending more than Spurs have spent the last 8 transfer windows combined. We all know what kind of football Mou brings, no matter how much money he splashes out on new players. Does anyone serioulsy think he`s gonna bring any silverware to Spurs?

Zero home crowds has all been part of the perfect storm for Jose so far this season. I went to a few Jose games at the new gaff. Boring as old a*se mate…

For them and their financial infrastructure and general trophy record they were fairly small fry. That was as good as it got too, it was seen as the beginning of something but it was pretty much the pinnacle.

Van Gaal won the FA Cup too avd as sacked a few months later before Jose went in. Tough job Utd but with Levy’s financial ‘prudence’ you wouldn’t expect Jose to exceed that at Spurs would you? Or would you..

Yes Limerick Al i can since the West Ham game we have changed our way of playing.I want to see Kane playing centre forward not in midfield and i dont think that Ndomble will ever play a full 90 mins.and Bale can go back to Real Madrid as he will not make it in the premiership.

We are still a work in progress. Today showed the mediocrity of our squad when Kane and Son have an off day. It’s hard to see where the goals are going to come from if either gets injured. Sissoko, Moura, Winks, Davies, Aurier, Vinicius, Dele, Gedson and Bale are all gash. I hope Bale is not match fit because if what he’s producing is the best we can hope for then his wages would be better spent elsewhere on somebody like Maddison and a striker who might actually play.

Just by the way Harry, Leicester got a wonderful goal stolen by VAR. And whats this “unconventional” word? This language doesnt fit you. Goals are goals, they are always products of quality and you know that

True, we have two of the best attackers in world football, we can’t get the blend between attack and defence right like Liverpool. Depressing result, brings me right back down to earth. Just seen Aurier’s barge for the penalty, I won’t dignify it by calling it a tackle.

Identity Crisis is exactly what it is, I’m a little lost of where we go from here, I think Mourinho has to realise that he has some very attack minded players, but is stifling their natural ability to attack the opposition. He is obsessed with Hojbjerg and his defensive system, but there is not enough from our midfield to support the attackers imo.

He spent some 300 million euros and won the FA cup and Euro League, with his well known brand of anti-football. Maybe if Levy gives him 100 mill euros to spend in January, we can defend our way to the League Cup.

Somehow, the dogged defending and quick transitions (both staples of our new style) made way for a shaky backline and misfiring forwards – at Palace and now against Leicester.

I don’t understand how that could happen – is it due to pressure of being touted as title challengers? If so, it is extremely concerning we let that get to our heads so early on.

I did get giddy like everyone else a few weeks back but I’d take top four and a cup right now.

And the Gooners getting relegated would be nice…

What a bloody depressing week, I had convinced myself we were held by a mighty Palarse team but then saw the midweek game. We could have won at Binshit FC and were lucky to get 0 against the Foxes.
Who were the absolute worst of a bad lot out there

Aurier, Sissoko or Dire

The good news is that our next four games are eminently winnable, we’ve played all the big teams once now. The bad news is that no-one looked up for the game today. Second to the tackle, header and the passing was pitiful. If you’re going to play defensive football you have to be aggressive, harry and win the ball back quickly for the counter. Let’s hope this changes quickly.

Once city enter the top 4 it wouldn’t surprise me if we were locked out of it until the summer. We are but a third of the way through this season and have lost to everton, palace and leicester; and failed to beat newcastle & wet spam. The excellent wins in between prove one thing; Spurs are a deeply inconsistent team, which of course is the primary ingredient of Spursiness. Under the ‘winner’, so far so samey.

Fingers crossed he turns out not to be the has-been he’s looked like for the past half decade or so.

I’m known on here as being anti-Jose, and for the most part (not personally towards the man) this is true. That doesn’t mean that I don’t respect what he’s done in the game.

However, I love the club and want what’s best for it. Obviously this is down to personal opinion but I have never thought the appointment of Jose was the right thing to do. That wasn’t based on him just being the ex title winner with Chelsea, it’s because I haven’t seen his tactical approach as relevant to the present day for some time.

Players have changed, teams have changed. High press is winning all the big prizes these days, back when Jose was winning titles far fewer teams played like that and neither were they winning big stuff.

i have never based my stance on Jose’s approach on anything other than wanting to see my team play with guile and creatively, generally with the football at our feet. Plus, feeling that Jose’s approach doesn’t cut it in the way it once did.

The last two games have seen him outsmarted by two advocates of the high press, I’m not sure what more evidence anyone needs to understand the point I’m making.

i don’t dislike him as a man but I dislike his approach and have never felt he was the right fit for Spurs. That doesn’t make me a ‘hater’ of anything other than what I don’t feel is right for the club. He isn’t right for our club in my opinion…

We’re much improved but reality check this is Mourinho’s second season and we’re not at Liverpool’s level yet, another few windows needed. I was getting my hopes up much like the year Leicester won the title, you never learn do you as a Spurs fan?

I’m parking any idea of a first title in sixty years, can’t take the wear and tear of it.

Please please stop this awful negative football. This is killing the team i love and there is no more enjoyment I the spectacle anymore. I’m fed up of the “if we play like this and win a trophy”…we’ve won nothing yet and in all honesty unlikely to. Worryingly I am now watching really entertaining game between Leeds and Man United and enjoying it. Do you think H Kane and Son etc are going to hang around playing this dress on a starvation diet. If you do you are deluded. Jose is lucky there are no crowds otherwise he’d be aware of the effect this football of his is having on us. Yes Poch won nothing but let’s get someone who can win us something with quality football
