“I wish Tottenham had signed him” – Pundit’s disappointment over Spurs missing out on ‘fantastic’ player

By Mehdi Gokal -

Former Tottenham midfielder and talkSPORT pundit Jamie O’Hara has expressed his regret that Spurs didn’t secure the signing of James Ward-Prowse in the summer transfer window.

Tottenham were strongly linked with the former Southampton midfielder, but they ultimately signed James Maddison from Leicester City for £40 million, a move that has proved highly successful so far.

Maddison has made an immediate impact at Spurs, contributing four goals in five games and earning the Premier League Player of the Month award for August.

However, Ward-Prowse has also been outstanding, scoring two goals and providing five assists in five appearances across all competitions.

Speaking to talkSPORT, O’Hara says he wished Tottenham has signed him.

O’Hara praised Ward-Prowse, emphasising that he is more than just a set-piece specialist and possesses a well-rounded game.

He expressed his wish that Tottenham had secured the English midfielder’s signature.

He said:

“I think he’s fantastic, I really do. I wish Tottenham had signed him.”

“He’s so much more than that as a player, he gets labelled as a set-piece specialist, but genuinely, he’s got so much more to his game than people think.”

While Ward-Prowse’s transfer to Tottenham didn’t materialise in the summer, there were reports suggesting that Spurs maintained an interest in him even after signing Maddison.

Some reports even indicated that manager Ange Postecoglou saw Ward-Prowse as a potential number 8, playing in an attacking role within the team.

However he may not have been able to get regular playing time with us while he has been able to establish himself as one of West Ham’s key players.

Meanwhile Yves Bissouma has been a standout player for us alongside Maddison and Pape Matar Sarr.
