“I think he will go…”: Tottenham tipped to get rid of first-team ace in a £15 million deal

John Wenham believes Tottenham are all set to sanction the departure of Pierre-Emile Højbjerg for a fee of around £15 million.

Højbjerg’s time at the North London club could end soon. The Danish international is surplus to requirements and with his contract running out in a year, this could be Spurs’ final chance to recoup the amount they had invested to bring him to the club.

John Wenham believes Hojbjerg could end his four-year-long stint at the London club in the coming weeks given the amount of interest in his services.

While talking to Tottenham News, the owner of the Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose said: “I think he will go, and I think he will go quite soon. I think he will be sold for £ 15 million, which would mean we get our money back on him. The links with Atletico Madrid and Fenerbache are good news for the club. It guarantees a certain price point with several sides interested.”

Hojbjerg was an integral part of their first team after joining them from Southampton back in 2020. He was a regular under Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte. But, a lot has changed post the arrival of Ange Postecoglou.

The Danish midfielder has fallen down the pecking order and has racked up less than 1500 minutes in his 39 outings. Frustrated by the lack of minutes, the 28-year-old is looking for a move away from the club.

Tottenham are now ready to sanction his departure as it is their final opportunity to cash in on him before his contract expires.

With Atletico Madrid and Fenerbahce keen on his signature, Wenham feels Tottenham could recoup the £15 million they had invested to bring him to the club.

It will be interesting to see if they can bring in quality replacements for the Denmark international this summer. Tottenham need more depth in the middle of the park, and they should use the proceeds from Hojbjerg’s departure to sign a quality midfielder.
