Former Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Paul Robinson has suggested that the north London club could look to make a move for another central defender at the end of the season.
Tottenham have already signed Micky van de Ven and Radu Dragusin this season. Along with Cristian Romero, they have three reliable central defenders at the club right now. However, Robinson feels that they might push for another central defender in the summer.
He said (h/t Football Fancast): “Dragusin’s a great signing. We haven’t seen anything of him, just coming off the bench, but the partnership of Romero and Van de Ven is clearly his first choice. If there is an injury or suspension in that area then Dragusin will come into that. So those three, if you’re going to go through a season, I think he will potentially add another for strength and depth next season.”
Ange Postecoglou needs adequate depth in his squad in order to compete on all fronts and having four central defenders would be ideal and Spurs will be able to rotate their players quite often.
Tottenham have linked with a number of defenders in recent months, and it remains to be seen who they end up signing.
They have put together an exciting squad and if they can add proper depth to the side in the coming months, there is no reason why they cannot compete for trophies next season.
They are currently well placed to secure Champions League qualification for the next season and it would be a major boost for them if they managed to finish in the top four. Not only would they be able to compete at the highest level in the Premier European competition, it would also allow them to sign the best players in the world.
