Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero has spoken out about his future at the club, expressing his desire to stay and have his best years with the North London side.
In a revealing interview with Football London, Romero revealed that despite receiving offers from other clubs to move away for the coming season, he turned them down as he wants to remain at Tottenham and continue playing in the Premier League.
He said:
“I’m the first to hold my hands up and say it wasn’t the best season but when I got offers from other clubs to move away for this coming season, I said no because I want to have my best years here.
“I really like the Premier League, I really like Tottenham and I want to be here for many more years to come.”
The Argentine defender joined Spurs on loan from Atalanta in 2021 and made his move permanent last summer.
Since then, he has established himself as the club’s best defender, despite facing some disciplinary issues with 22 yellow cards and 3 red cards in his 64 appearances across all competitions.
Nevertheless, Romero’s performances have been impressive, and he has been a key player for his country, helping Argentina win the Copa America and recently lifting the World Cup in Qatar.
Rumors had linked Romero with a move to Juventus, but his recent comments seem to confirm his commitment to Tottenham.
With the defense still needing reinforcements, Spurs have been linked with other defenders, including Micky van de Ven and Edmond Tapsoba.
On the other hand, it seems Davinson Sanchez is set to depart, as the club has reportedly agreed on a £13 million fee with Spartak Moscow for the Colombian center-back.
Romero’s decision to stay will likely be welcomed by Tottenham fans, as he has shown immense potential and could be a vital asset for the club’s future success.
His commitment to Tottenham is a positive sign for the team as they continue to build and strengthen under the guidance of manager Ange Postecoglou.
