Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has been criticised heavily for his error-prone performances this season.
The 36-year-old has cost his side valuable points and there have been rumours that the north London club could look to replace him at the end of the season.
The French international goalkeeper has now hinted (h/t Guardian) that he is looking at potential opportunities during the summer transfer window.
“We are coming to an important moment, whether for the club or for me. It’s the end of an era. I have desires for other things, I will ask myself quietly to study what will be possible.
“But I don’t forget that I still have a year of contract with Tottenham and that in football it is always difficult to predict what will happen. What is essential at the moment is to recover well from my injury. I’m on vacation but I continue to talk and do my training. My goal is to be on top in July, then we’ll see what the future holds.”
The goalkeeper has 12 months left to run on his current contract with the London club but it seems that he is ready to move on this summer.
Spurs will have to bring in a quality goalkeeper this summer and they cannot hope to use Lloris as the first-choice goalkeeper next season. It makes sense for the 2018 World Cup winner to move on in search of regular football elsewhere.
Lloris has been a fantastic servant for the Premier League club but the time is right for both parties to go separate ways. He could still be a quality option for teams in a different league and Tottenham will have to bring in a new number one this summer.
The north London giants have been linked with players like David Raya and Andre Onana in recent weeks.
It will be interesting to see if they can replace the French international adequately. The 36-year-old is undoubtedly a club legend and Spurs will miss his leadership qualities and mentality apart from his goal-keeping abilities.
