‘I don’t want to open a can of worms’: Gerrard weighs in on Tottenham star’s future

By Saikat -

Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane has been linked with a move away from the club at the end of the season.

The 29-year-old England international was linked with a move away from Tottenham at the start of the season as well. But the north London club managed to hold on to him.

The player will enter the final 12 months of his contract in the summer and there have been rumours that he could look to move on and join the club capable of challenging for the major trophies.

Tottenham recently sacked Antonio Conte and Kane could feel that the London club’s chances of winning a trophy has gone down with the Italian’s departure. Conte is a proven winner across multiple leagues and he was determined to win a trophy with the north London club.

Tottenham have been linked with managers like Julian Nagelsmann and Mauricio Pochettino in recent weeks and it remains to be seen who they end up appointing as a long-term replacement for the Italian.

Meanwhile, former Premier League footballers Steven Gerrard and Joe Cole have now opened up on the future of the England international.

While Steven Gerrard revealed that Kane has a big summer ahead of him, and he will have to take a crucial decision on his future. He will want to win trophies at this stage of his career and he will have to decide whether he wants to continue at Tottenham and deal with the fact that he might not win a major trophy in his career.

“I don’t want to open a can of worms, [but] he’s got a big decision to make career-wise,” Gerrard said via Football London. “I’ve been there myself where you’re thinking is my team good enough to get me the medals? Am I going to get out of my career what I want to get?

“He’s got a big decision to make. I can’t give him any advice on that but I bet you every single day of his life now moving forward it’s gonna be on his mind.”

Meanwhile, the former Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole added that it would be a travesty if the 29-year-old did not win a major trophy in his career, given the fact that he’s one of the best players England have had.

He said: “Harry Kane’s nearly 30 and he’s not lifted silverware so for a player of his ability that will be a travesty. He’s got a big decision to make, I’m sure it’s not going to be something he’s thinking about now because it’s all England now but come tomorrow morning he’s back with his Tottenham head on and they have to have a big decision.

“I just think it would be a travesty if he finishes his career without winning a trophy because he’s one of the all-time greats in this country, that’s for sure.”

Tottenham fans will certainly hope that the 29-year-old can commit his long-term future to the club and help them win a trophy in the coming seasons.
