I Believe It’s Less About Spurs’ Reliance on Kane And More About How Unreliable Tottenham’s Recruitment Has Been – opinion

By The Boy -

A familiar refrain from some fans is that the match stats can be used to prove anything. That’s not true, because what cannot speak cannot lie. As long as those pulling the numbers select the examples with a fair hand, then you get accuracy. The only thing that is more nuanced and can be far trickier to pick up is the influence players have upon each other. Spurs have two players that have a greater effect than the nuts and bolts of their passing averages. Two players that never switch off.

One is just beginning to make his voice heard, Pierre Hojbjerg, and the other as we saw in the All Or Nothing series, is the man that rules the roost, is Harry Kane. This is not because Kane is from another planet, rather, within most sides, even the less successful ones, one can find men who demand more than others. Being technically good enough isn’t enough on its own,

Tottenham’s problem isn’t a reliance upon Kane, it’s the saddening reality that so few other players in our squad come across as being such nice boys, it’s ridiculous. When the row erupted between Sonny and Lloris, I can’t be the only one who struggled to keep a straight face. I don’t believe I’ve ever seen two physically unthreatening men ‘go for each other’.

Given the Mourinho prototype player that we have all come to know and fear, it came as no surprise that José had his ‘nice boys’ speech when he arrived at Tottenham, nor that he regarded Dele Alli as untrustworthy. Mourinho’s CV wasn’t built upon the backs of adolescents who pontificated on chocolate bars, whose obsession lay in nutmegging opponents. Indeed, when Mourinho sat down with Levy in the Amazon documentary and said that Sir Alex had urged him to buy Alli, one could almost sense the disbelief in José’s tone – prompted by having actually met the boy.

Tottenham needs to recruit more players with the focus and work ethic of Kane and Hojbjerg. Until then, Spurs will remain as utterly unreliable as they are now and have been for some time.

In the final analysis, Pochettino couldn’t get a tune out of most of these, so I have no idea why anyone might expect why anyone might believe Mourinho would. Management simply doesn’t work like that, if you’ve ever managed anywhere, you would know that.

Who could actually be successful in any role working for Levy. Mitchell knew straight away.

20 plus years of Levy suggests it is in fact too difficult.

I think you make a valid point in that Levy does not know anything about football itself which is what brings us undone. All the surrounding bits and pieces he can use to make money but football itself mystifies him. He doesn’t even know when to sell.

The squad is were it was/is, but the ‘in aweness’ our chairman has with the manager will hopefully change recruitment going forward. The summer window was like a person dying at the side of the road and you have to get some blood in to them to keep them alive, before you can do longer term rehabilitation. And hopefully we can plan for a better summer window this year

All or nothing was heavily edited by Spurs too.. It makes me wonder what they did cut out. His 5 minute feature was pointless. All I remember is that he hates his job, he finds it difficult and he drinks coffee!

I watched them yesterday against Liverpool and they were demonstrably the better side. Added to that was the display from Phil Foden. If you haven’t already seen his goal, try and download it somewhere. What I would give to see him in a Spurs shirt!

Out with the deadwood.. Then get Maureen the players he wants and needs.. All eyes on Hitchen and Baldy the next windows.. It can’t be that difficult to sell and buy players.

L. A. Lakers will win NBA.
Problem is, bookies are shut.😶

Oh Lord we are suppose to put a lickin on these teams and prove our mettle against the big boys. Losing to these bottom feeders is a story not eking out a win. No time to wave the pom poms and reel out the stats sheet. This should have been clean up on Isle 5, yet it took us 50 plus minutes to ring their bell. Don’t tell me where we should be if we are carrying our lunch buckets to take on these survivors. Somehow we always ended up back at Levy and Poch. I want to see a consistent line up and system for crying out loud. I want to know what we playing counter attack or on the front foot from the off. Am I going to see this personnel and system against city. I and I do not know that. The season is heading home and we here talking about Levy and this is after a moral boosting win. Geezus!!!

One musn’t forget that when Spurs go shopping in the transfer market it’s always about finding what we need in the bargain basement box.

The players we attract tick boxes, just not boxes that include being good footballers.

The owners, like the British government over Covid, are experts in blaming everyone but themselves. In fact Lewis and Levy are our very own virus. And like Covid continue to
mutate and infect every manager, player and fan they come into contact with.

At the expense of boring everyone to death on the subject, the football side of the club needs to be completely overhauled. This starts at the top with a change of CEO. The present one is and has been a disaster for twenty years which has not been helped by his fundamental lack of knowledge about football. A competent CEO would review the scouting, recruitment and analytical side of the club, something Liverpool did some years ago when they decided that theIR results were not good enough. He would immediately sack Hitchen who is a moron and would consider appointing a DOF. This would be a start in the right direction. The reasons that we never trained on after our woeful display in the CL final can be laid firmly at the door of Levy. For the club to change it’s philosophy, he needs to go or at least relinquish all his football duties.

Too many non descript ‘behind the striker’ average types. Too many loans, too much penny pinching. Character is hard to come by these days.

And other news…shock horror! In America since Biden appeared ‘covid cases’ down 50%?!? Well I never? That should explain everything.

I can’t disagree with you but worryingly we’re over playing Hojbjerg as well as Kane. Another defensive mid to give PEH a breather must be on the wish list for the summer.

The holes that need filling in this squad just seem to grow by the day. I don’t know where the money is going to come from, I guess it will be a mix of buys, loans to buy and make do and mend ie tolerating the presence of players who should have been chased years ago.

That’s all we ask of them when they take to the field of play.

Our scouting is shocking, Hitchen has been at the helm of this for ages now.. Where would we be without Kane though, the last 6 or 7 years would have been even more painful… He has carried us time and again.
