Tottenham Hotspur fans have received some good news, as injury expert Ben Dinnery has revealed that Hugo Lloris is on track to return to action in the beginning week of April.
The veteran goalkeeper suffered an injury against Manchester City in February and was expected to be sidelined for eight weeks.
Dimmery in an interview with GiveMeSport revealed that the Frenchman is on course to make a return to the squad in the ‘beginning of April’.
He said:
“We’re looking at that target of the first game back after the international break.
“Of course, there are other influencing factors with regards to that, and some may point to the performance of Fraser Forster in goal, but certainly pushing to be included in that matchday squad for the beginning of April.
“I think that’s more than realistic; it means he’s been bang on schedule, that rehab and the recovery processes went fairly smoothly, and there hasn’t been any major setbacks up until this point. So, positive things with regards to that.”
Lloris has been with Spurs for almost a decade and is an influential figure at the club both on and off the pitch. However, he has not had the best of seasons, making a number of errors leading directly to goals.
In his absence, Fraser Forster has filled in for Lloris and has performed exceptionally well. The question now is whether manager Antonio Conte will stick with Forster or replace him with Lloris once the Frenchman is back in the squad.
Spurs are also reportedly looking at potential candidates to replace Lloris in the summer, with a number of keepers linked including Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak.
Regardless of his form, Lloris’ return will come as a boost to Tottenham as they look to finish the season strongly and secure a European spot. With only a few months left of the season, every game is crucial and having an experienced goalkeeper like Lloris back in the squad will give them a better chance of success.
It remains to be seen whether Lloris will be able to regain his form quickly after his injury, but Spurs fans will be hoping that he can make a positive impact in the remaining games of the season.
