Tottenham Hotspur star James Maddison has confirmed that he will be out for the rest of 2023.
James Maddison suffered a knock against Chelsea and was taken off before half-time.
The injury did not look serious initially with Ange Postecoglou claiming that he was taken off just as a precaution.
But it was revealed yesterday that his injury was much more significant than first though with him expected to be out for months.
The player himself has now confirmed that he will not be playing again this year.
After the defeat to Wolves, James Maddison took to his social media to share a message with the Tottenham fans.
He posted a picture of him with the following message:
“The rollercoaster that is football unfortunately. Will need a period of time away from the pitch to get this one right. See you in the new year Spurs fans, I’ll be back better & stronger for sure, promise you that.”
Maddison’s injury is a huge blow for Tottenham as evident in the defeat against Wolves today.
Maddison is the top creator for Spurs and one of the best in the league. Almost every Spurs attack goes through him.
With him expected to be out until January 2024, Spurs might struggle to pose the same attacking threat that they did with him on the pitch.
Earlier today, they scored an early goal to take the lead, Brennan Johnson scoring his first goal for Spurs.
But they were the second best team for most of the game. Eventually they ran out of legs and crumbled as Wolves scored twice in stoppage time to win 2-1.
