“He’s like Drogba”: Former player urges Tottenham to get striker target “over the line”

By Rob S -

“He’s like Drogba”. Now there are three words likely to get Tottenham fans excited about a transfer target.

Those words are slightly less exciting when you learn they were said by Jimmy Walker about Olivier Giroud.

Walker told Love Sport Radio: “Someone like Giroud would be great. He’s a top striker, and he wouldn’t mind playing second fiddle to Kane – he would know his role. He’s one they should look at, because he knows how to play up top on his own.

“He’s like Drogba – he can hold the ball up, win headers, link the play and be a real focal point for the side.

“I can’t see anyone coming in for fifty million and being a real top player, but Giroud could do a job for Spurs so maybe he’s one to get over the line”.

While former goalkeeper Walker – who was on Tottenham’s books between 2009 and 2010 – is some way off the mark with his comparison, his point that Spurs should look to sign Giroud certainly has some merit.

Giroud’s CV would certainly make him an unpopular choice among many Tottenham fans, due to his former Arsenal and current Chelsea links.

But he is proven at Premier League level, he would provide a strong aerial threat that is currently sadly lacking, and one imagines the like of Son Heung-min, Lucas Moura and Dele Alli would thrive playing around him.

London transfer guru David Ornstein suggested earlier today that Giroud was pretty much Tottenham’s only last realistic option as they look to recruit a striker before Friday night’s deadline.

Ornstein also claimed Giroud was “open to all offers”

I knew a guy who was in denial once, his missus was putting it about but he wanted to believe her excuses and lies, just to get his leg over with her another time… 😂

What have we being doing in the last 20 months with money coming in? You can’t compare the last 20 broke years to what will happen in the next 20 rich years. For me it starts now.

Some people are optimists like you my man.. Some people are pessimists… Some people are skeptics.. Some people are realists… I agree getting giroud in is better than noone.. But still if we want to ‘win stuff’ then buying all these benchwarmers and second rate players isnt good enough. Llorente was 10 years past his bbe.. Giroud couldnt get a game for the arse. Nor for the chavs. Hes not very good. I would choose many strikers over him. Not impressed at all. This transfer window we have stood still yet again, or perhaps took another step backwards.

I hope you’re right too mate.. But jose spends to win, he had 400 million to spend at united. It didnt end well. No such luxuries with us. I will be suprised if he lasts more than two years. The clash between levy and maureen will inevitably happen, either at the end of another poor transfer window, or when results go south… My main fear under maureen was that deep defending bus parking, constant long balls and those boring results loads of 1-0 and 1-1 and 2-1s…. We are already looking like this.. But shipping goals as much as we score them only norwich are leaking in more… Any manager would have winning mentality if they spent more money than anyone ever. Over 1 billion plus the likes of ronaldo drogba eto hazard essien ballack.. Any manager at romans chelsea, real madrid and united ‘wins stuff’ because they have the most money and the best players.

I hope you’re right mate.. And I wish I had your optimism.. I did when schnapps was managing and also poch until the neglect started…. But it is (in levy) we must trust. Twenty years and counting. Tough to have faith in a hypocrite like levy. He banged on about champs league before poch made us regulars. He said we need it to ‘attract quality players’. Then when he had four years of it he broke world records for buying noone at all followed up with a few kids with potential.. Levy is clearly brilliant at making money for himself and enic, but football wise the man hasn’t a clue.

I’m with you man, nice to hear a bit of positivity on hear, someone who can see the good times that’s round the corner, we now have the manager with a winning mentality, if he’s here long enough he will mould that team & don’t surprised if he’s here for longer than his usual 3 years

Why do ppl only see the minuses & not the pluses. It’s a shame, he would make a real difference to our team now. When Ksne is back he’ll be a massive upgrade on Llorente. There is no down side to getting Giroud in.

Your exactly right Tappa, just what we need now.
Group for two reasons wold be perfect.
Short term problem solver & out London rivals will hate seeing him in our kit after there’s.

Yeah, I know, the future is going to be bright. To me and others it’s just yet another cycle in what ENIC have been doing for two decades and it never leads the club anywhere.

Just as soon as we look like a top team, it’s broken up and the manager is blamed and sacked off.

“It’s happening again, it’s happening again, same old $hite, is happening again”…

It matched our set up two seasons ago, zero investment put an end to that.

Now Levy’s scrabbling about in January trying to freshen things up with whoever happens to be knocking around for under 30m. It’s pathetic…

Big name signings are in the not too distant future. Don’t worry man. We gonna come GOOD strong strong strong. 😊. You don’t know me but trust me anyway. We gonna be happy proud fans. COME TO CONQUER. give it 3 or 4 windows max. All traces of pochs lot will be gone.

I don’t care about ex goon or chavs, its all about how good they are… Give us thiery henry or eden hazard in their prime for sure…. Giroud can jog on.

Having an ex Goon/Chav forward is nothing, Levy’s the first chairman in our history to allow red on our shirts. Levy doesn’t have any soul when it comes to these things.

Chavs will never let him go to us, more unicorns and fairies stuff…

Giroud is just like drogba 😆 yeah apart from the fact drogba was world class, scored loads more goals, was a consistent big game match winner, had loads of pace strength and guile… I dont want giroud he’s pants far too often.. But he is probably better than nothing, unfortunately… What a sorry state of affairs. A shambles. Big name signings are seemingly now a thing of the past for us.. Too much money for scrooge mcduck to part with. Shameful. You have reaped what you have sown mr levy. The two, nearly three years neglect has devastated over half our squad. We dont deserve europe. We wont be in top ten richest clubs next year as we wont be in champs league. Less money for levy. Less likely to attract any quality players as they all want champs league. The boat has sailed. Should have backed the damn manager.

Its a business decision…buying a top Striker is high risk and expensive so he would rather buy attacking mids as they are probably easier to shift on if it all goes wrong…however, not replacing Llorente and having 1 striker does seem rather negligent for the 8th richest club in the multi-verse

Seriously!! Setting your sights way too low, this is exactly what Levy wants, the fans expectations to match his. Look into my eyes, look into my eyes, not around my eyes, look into my eyes, now sleep mother f@kcer!!!
Youve been Levied!! Pull your pants up on the way out.

I doubt Chelsea will sell to us. Why is this our only realistic option? Kane has been injured nearly a month. Why have has it taken so long to identify a target man? The last two strikers we bought as back up to Kane were Janssen and Llorente , neither of whom were good enough. Another example of Levy’s negligence and ineptitude in the transfer market. Once again, his famous negotiating skills do not stand scrutiny. What a shame our club is run by these leeches.
