“He’ll be an asset to Spurs” Pundit reckons forward would improve Tottenham

By Bruce Grove -

Alex McLeish believes that Tottenham will get a player that would prove to be an asset to them if they seal the transfer of Jesse Lingard.

Lingard was one of the best players in the Premier League in the second half of last season when he was on loan at West Ham from Manchester United.

He has now been linked with a move to Tottenham as a part of a deal to take Harry Kane to Old Trafford.

A few days ago, Football Insider reported that Nuno Espirito Santo will demand Lingard as one of the players that United have to send to Tottenham in a player-plus-cash deal for Kane.

The same source claims Lingard is liked by the new Tottenham boss even though it would be complicated to sign him as a part of a Kane transfer.

As uncertainty continues to surround the future of the Tottenham striker and Lingard, McLeish is confident that if he can show the form he showed at West Ham, then he would be a valuable asset to Tottenham.

He told Football Insider: “Well, if he plays to the level he played at West Ham, he will be an absolute improvement.

“I don’t think there’s any doubt about that. Jesse obviously kind of slowed down the last couple of years, when he was an England regular. That can hurt a player very badly.

“To do what he did at West Ham last season and help them to fifth-place finish was amazing. It was a rise from nowhere, really.

“He was getting criticism at Man United, he was not involved in the team, never really picked at all.

“Then to come and play almost instantly at the level he played that then of course. I think if he continues that form, then he’ll be an asset to Spurs.”

If I’m not mistaken neither Lingard nor Martial will make a blind bit of difference to a squad which is dead in the water. Kane going, morale in the gutter. Relegation battle next season. God bless you Daniel Levy, the worst thing to happen to THFC in its history. Last season I was abused for stating that no quality CBs signed would eventually end in disaster. I am serious when I say our club is sinking like an armless man in iron speedos. There is no naming rights deal on the horizon, no top signings being persued. It’s all a smokescreen. Club is dead. RIP THFC Long live ENIC and all your apologists.

Martial for me. Who cares if he smiles. He knows where the goal is. He and Lacazette always get the blame when their clubs are in poor form. If Moura or Bergwjin goes, we have room for Martial who can play across the line.

Can’t argue with his form for West Ham but his decline at United is all too reminiscent of one Dele Ali

So thanks but no thanks.
