Tottenham Hotspur completed the signing of Radu Dragusin last week, a defender they had been pursuing since quite a few weeks.
Spurs faced eleventh-hour competition from Bayern Munich, who made a better offer, but the centre-back opted to join the North London outfit.
The 21-year-old, who made his debut for the Spurs by coming on as a substitute against Manchester United over the weekend, signed a contract that is set to expire on June 2030.
But despite the long-term commitment, his agent has already talked up a future move to Bayern and Real Madrid.
His agent Florin Manea mentioned that his client has significant potential and foresees him playing for Europe’s top-tier clubs.
In an interview with the Romanian outlet Digisport, he said: “In three or four years I see him at Real Madrid!”
And now, the CEO of Dragusin’s former club has suggested that his stay at Hotspur Way will be short-lived.
Speaking to Romania’s daily newspaper GSP.ro, Andres Blazquez remarked:
“Dragusin has great potential and I think he won’t stay too long at Spurs. Radu will reach a top five European team! I think Tottenham will not be the last destination of his career. I see him at a top five team in Europe in the future.”
Genoa’s CEO also mentioned that they could have negotiated a more favourable deal with Bayern, exceeding Tottenham’s €30 million, which includes €5 million in add-ons.
However, they chose to honour Dragusin’s childhood dream of playing in the English top flight. Blazquez explained:
“We would have gotten more money [from Bayern], a few million, and Radu’s contract would have been better. But we respected his desire to play in the Premier League.”
TBH Says:
Fans have not been thrilled by the agent’s comments, finding it extremely disrespectful, specially considering they came before he had even kicked a ball for us.
And with his former club’s CEO also making similar claims, perhaps it is something Levy will need to keep him in mind.
