‘he will be gone’: Tottenham insider expects club to get rid of 24-year-old utility man

By Saikat -

Tottenham Hotspur defender Japhet Tanganga is expected to leave the club at the end of the season.

The 24-year-old defender has struggled to hold down a regular starting spot at the north London club, and it is evident that he is not a key part of Ange Postecoglou’s first-team plans.

It would be ideal for him to move on and join a club where he will get regular game time.

The defender was highly rated when he broke through to the first team seen under former manager Jose Mourinho. Tanganga impressed with his defensive quality and versatility. He is capable of operating as a central defender as well as a fullback.

He was expected to develop into a key player for Tottenham, but his development has not gone according to plan.

John Wenham has now revealed to Tottenham News that Spurs will let him leave for free at the end of the season unless he impresses with Millwall on his loan spell. If he does well with the championship outfit, Tottenham could look to renew his contract and sell him for a nominal price.

He said: “If Tanganga doesn’t play between now and the end of the season, I think that Tottenham will simply just release him. If he does play, then I think Spurs will take up the option to extend his contract by one year, and then look to sell him for somewhere around the £3 million mark. Time will tell, but I expect that either way he will be gone in the summer.”

The defender is still only 24 and he has plenty of time to get his career back on track with regular football. He will look to fulfil his potential in the coming seasons and establish himself as a key player for club and country.

A move away from Tottenham and would be ideal for all parties and it remains to be seen where he ends up.
