‘He just said…’: January signing reveals what Spurs star said to entice him before move

By Saikat -

Tottenham Hotspur completed the signing of Swedish midfielder Lucas Bergvall during the January transfer window.

The 18-year-old was a target for Spanish Barcelona as well. However, Tottenham managed to win the race for his signature eventually. The midfielder opted to join the Premier League club instead of a move to Spain.

There have been rumours that the Tottenham winger Dejan Kulusevski played a key role in convincing the midfielder to join the club. Bergvall has now revealed that he had a discussion with his compatriot before moving to Tottenham.

However, the 18-year-old added that Kulusevski was not trying to persuade him to join Tottenham. Instead, the Swedish winger gave the youngster a brief overview of the club.

“We talked a little before,” revealed Bergvall to Aftonbladet (h/t Sport Witness). “In general, how the club works, how they work, how they train, what the days look like. It wasn’t a persuasive talk like that.

“He just said the club was great and I noticed that when I got there. I got an incredible reception. It’s a very family club, but incredible people.”

Bergvall is highly rated around Europe and he could develop into a top class player for Tottenham with the right guidance. The 18-year-old mostly operates as a creative midfielder and he will add craft, technical ability and control in the middle of the park.

Spurs have decided to let him continue his development with regular football at Djurgardens until the end of the season. He will join up with his new teammates in the summer.

It will be interesting to see if Bergvall can make an immediate impact in the Premier League next season. He is likely to have a first team role at Tottenham and he will look to establish himself as a player for the club.
