Tottenham Hotspur midfielder James Maddison has been quite impressive since his £45 million move to the club.
He has established himself as an indispensable asset for Ange Postecoglou and his performances have helped Spurs grind out valuable points this season.
Journalist Alasdair Gold has now revealed on his YouTube channel that Tottenham have been very careful with their management of the 26-year-old midfielder and they have been managing his workload carefully behind the scenes.
Apparently, the midfielder does not do every training session because of small niggles and issues.
“I know there’s been some concern as there always is as people have watched the training videos and haven’t seen James Maddison. Sometimes Maddison doesn’t do every session because he has little niggles and issues that mean he doesn’t. What I would say about training videos is you don’t know when they’re taken,” Gold said.
“It may well be that we find out something isn’t right, but nothing came from Postecoglou about Maddison.”
Maddison is undoubtedly the main source of creativity from the Tottenham midfield and they will need to protect him for the remainder of the season. They are lacking in depth in that department and they cannot afford to lose the 26-year-old to an injury.
It is hardly a surprise that his workload is being managed behind the scenes so that he can play every game and contribute at a high level.
The 26-year-old has helped create goal-scoring opportunities for his teammates and he has chipped in with valuable goals as well. He will be hoping to help Tottenham win the upcoming London Derby against Chelsea.
It remains to be seen whether the 26-year-old can continue to perform at a high level and help Tottenham finish the season strongly. They will be desperate to return to the UEFA Champions League at the end of the season and players like Maddison will be instrumental in fulfilling their ambitions.
