Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly eyeing up a surprise move for Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy, as they search for a replacement for long-serving Hugo Lloris.
Mendy joined the club and immediately was a solid performer for Chelsea, but has lost his place to Kepa Arrizabalaga this season which has led to doubts about his future at the club.
Journalist Simon Phillips has suggested that Mendy is not interested in staying at Chelsea, and the club has been considering replacements for him.
He told GIVEMESPORT:
“Mendy is another one that doesn’t look good at the moment.
“He’s not looking to sign a new contract extension with Chelsea as of now, there’s been no talks of late. Chelsea have also been pondering replacements for him so he could go.”
Tottenham were offered the services of the Chelsea keeper according to a report by 90min in January, but nothing materialized at the time.
Lloris has had a poor season, making a number of errors leading directly to goals, which has led to harsh criticism from pundits. He season went from bad to worst when he suffered an injury in February that would keep him out for the rest of the season.
Reports suggest that Tottenham are considering a number of options, including Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak as his replacement. Tottenham could use their good relationship with the Spanish club to sign the world-class keeper. However, Manchester United are also linked with a move for Oblak to replace David De Gea.
Other names frequently linked with Tottenham include David Raya and Jordan Pickford. Spurs will have to move quickly if they want to secure a new goalkeeper before the start of next season.
