“Spurs’ draw with Olympiacos sums them up. They’re the nearly men.” ?

“They nearly win the Champions League, nearly win the Premier League.” ?
“Pochettino doesn’t want to be a nearly man, he is too good.”@JasonCundy05 says #THFC can’t continue to just miss out on glory. pic.twitter.com/snXSQx4Dxm
Jason Cundy.
Apologies for the brutal use of language, but as unpleasant as Cundy is, there’s not much wrong with what he says here.
Regular readers will know my stance on Spurs. It’s like watching your own flesh and blood make a series of bad decisions. Marrying the wrong people, losing their home in an Internet scam, that sort of thing.
Are Spurs ‘nearly men’? I’d say if anything, that was a kind description. If you take the vast amounts of goodwill and cold hard cash that has been unrelentingly poured into the club over the last 20 years, then the tangible achievements don’t tally up.
Is Poch too good?
He’s produced comparative miracles, yet his man management isn’t much more sophisticated than a kindergarten minder. #NaughtyStep
Levyologists will leap in at this point, reminding us of the magnificent stadium and Hotspur Way. My reply is a swift one. WE paid for both of those, and none of us actually lobbied for them.
Football fans want trophies – because that’s the metric.
If you want to enjoy the ride, I’ve heard the Orient Express is ‘enjoyable’.
Admittedly when the Foxes won the title in 2016 IMO that was probably the moment our PL title aspirations vanished for ever!
Yep they were both very impressive preseason.
Yep nearly won the league 11 points off in 3rd 😂
Couldn’t agree more. They’d relish the opportunity.
The boy troy and tangang gotta play every cup game.
No . Two things. Point three is for gutless wimps who think like
that so early in the season and should be thrown away.
Also point three is an opinion which you can’t see in the game so only two things stood out but yes..it is stoopid to mark it as a point three. Hmm. lol Who cares.
Harsh Cundy assessment against an under par Liverpool side in the not a great game CL final as Spurs lacking self belief? created some chances but just did not put them away!
3 things!
It always make me laugh when people say we nearly won the league. Leicester were top from Christmas to the end of the season so everyone else was chasing them – how does that look like we nearly won the league?!
We didn’t nearly win the CL either – just because we were in the final.
The problem with the league cup is that 2 legged semi final – it comes at a critical time in league and champions league. You can’t prioritise it.
The next few seasons are a very telling time for us. The investment in stadium was done to increase revenue, so we can compete better in the transfer market – or so we have been led to believe. If major investment in the team doesn’t happen soon, there’s all the proof you need.
I dunno about better than the cups (open top bus😊) the B team should be enough to get us a little cup. Don’t want the spine of the team involved.
I’d go as far as to say they were the nearly men, they’re now the spent men.
Pochettino isn’t too good for Spurs he has been one of the biggest architects of our own failings.
Not enough enthusiasm or pro activity in the markets, holding onto and shoe horning in players of a sub standard, bizarre rotation at crucial times, running a small squad into the ground, lame substitutions, little in game management, lack of tactics, naievity, negative pressers before important games, to much meaningless waffle, the pity us while being completely compliant.
It’s ran it’s course the squad hasn’t improved & Pochettino hasn’t improved
Agree .Top four is a better trophy than League Cup or FAC but a cup win as well would be nice.
Absolute turgid analysis from cundy.
Who the fuck takes talksport seriously? It is the radio incarnation of a sweaty gammon.
We never do it, never have in my lifetime. Its more fun be nearly men than it is no-where-near-anything-men.
Frustrating.
Two things stood out in the disappointing draw.
(i) How animated Poch was on the touchline and
(ii) That especially in the first half how supposedly inferior Olympiakos were much hungrier and quicker to the ball.
(iii) Already given up on the prospect of winning some elusive silverware. Suffcient to say when it happens it happens!
If this season was next season I’d be fucking fuming. Its not though. I expected this. I also expected us to to be up there still whilst this shit is going on. Next season and beyond. Top 4 is the goal for me. Anything else will be a joy.
