Journalist Alex Crook has claimed that Kylian Mbappe’s potential move to Real Madrid could be positive news for Tottenham Hotspur fans.
The Spanish giants are expected to make significant investments this summer following a disappointing season.
While Real Madrid have strongly been linked with Tottenham striker Harry Kane, Crook suggests that Mbappe’s situation adds an interesting twist to the transfer saga.
They are also liked with French superstar who as per Crook has told PSG in writing that he will not be extending his contract with the club.
Which means if the French giants do not sell him this summer, they will be losing him on a free next year which will be a huge financial blow.
Crook believes if Mbappe goes anywhere it would be Real Madrid.
He believes this would be great news for Tottenham since he can’t see Kane and Mbappe fitting together in the same team.
Crook told TalkSport (via HITC):
“Mbappe has told PSG, in writing, that he won’t be taking up that extra year on his contract, if he does allow his contract to run down, then he will be a free agent next summer.”
“PSG don’t want that to happen, so I think it’s going to be interesting to see how this develops. It could become the saga of the summer. I don’t think he is Premier League-bound. I think if he goes anywhere, then it will be Real Madrid.
“That’s probably good news for Tottenham and Daniel (Levy). Obviously, Mbappe and Kane don’t fit into the same side, so I think it is increasingly likely now that Kane stays at Spurs.”
Real Madrid signing both Kane and Mbappe is indeed unlikely. Additionally, Kane’s preference to stay in England to break Alan Shearer’s Premier League goalscoring record could make the deal a difficult one.
Harry Kane’s contract with Spurs expires next summer and after another season without a silverware, a summer exit has become extremely likely.
Real Madrid are not the only team interested in him. Manchester United have also been strongly linked with him with reports claiming Erik ten Hag has made his top transfer target.
However as per the latest reports, Manchester United have ended their interest in Kane due to Tottenham’s asking price.
While Crook believes Kane is now likely to stay at Spurs, Tottenham fans can expect the transfer saga to drag on further.
