Gold & Guest reveal a highly questionable attacking decision by Thomas Frank [opinion]

Removing the portly Australian was a good idea. The evidence was there for all to see. Beyond the ten games which he won against some of the worst sides we played in the all season, the screaming headline was that we nearly got relegated.

Daniel Levy spoke of wanting to use the cup win as a springboard, but yet again proved he didn’t understand football. The catalyst to engage this summer was doing whatever was required to not finish seventeenth again. That was the mission statement.

However, it looks like Tottenham are hell-bent on the course to mend and make do, whatever the consequences.

It’s a good thing, in principle

The idea that Frank has taken a real shine to Oderbert is a wonderful, ringing endorsement, if true. Yet what it isn’t is a reflection of the player we’ve seen so far, who has been decidedly average.

Filling Sonny’s shoes was always going to be a tough job, but with all the will in the world, this kid isn’t going to be anywhere close to doing that job.

As with Harry Kane, that’s also been a depressing downgrade. Richarlison has been very close to a complete waste of money, and while Dominic Solanke looks very athletic, once again, where are the goals?

Fan tolerance and club incompetence go hand in hand

Spurs fans appear fond of producing excuses; we’ve heard it all. ‘He’s been injured, his mental health hasn’t been right, give him more time’ right through to the old chestnut, ‘go and support someone else’.

Tottenham’s transfer strategy is either dogged by reluctance or incompetence.

Anyone who thinks we are too big to go down is far too full of themselves, and it’s difficult to believe that this mindset still exists in the 21st century. Manchester United have already spent, and spent well.

Could that have anything to do with where they finished last season? Stop waving goodbye to Son and bring in fresh meat.
