Alasdair Gold reckons Tottenham is still interested in a move for Marcel Sabitzer, but the Austrian is unlikely to sign for them this month.
The Lilywhites have been linked with a move for him in recent months as they continue to strengthen their squad.
Spurs want to start winning trophies, and they know that they can only really do that if they sign the right players.
Sabitzer has been one of the best players at RB Leipzig since he joined them in 2014, and he scored against Tottenham in the Champions League last season to show them what he is capable of.
This month offers Spurs the chance to pursue their interest in his signature, but Gold doesn’t think it will happen.
He said that while the Lilywhites want him, the economics involved in landing him and the timing seems to be wrong.
He was speaking in a video for Football London and said: “Sabitzer is a player that Spurs really like. They really admire him, [they’ve] kept an eye on him for a few years now. But it’s just whether it’s the right time to go for him, in terms of those squad problems, the finances involved and, also, I’m pretty sure Sabitzer’s contract enters its final year in the summer. You don’t move for that kind of player in this window.”
