Gold claims Tottenham loan deal will become permanent if certain criterias are met

By Mehdi Gokal -

Tottenham Hotspur defender Japhet Tanganga joined Bundesliga side Augsburg on loan for the rest of the season.

Tottenham had a very busy transfer window this summer.

They went through a rebuild under new manager Ange Postecoglou. They signed 7 players including James Maddison, Manor Solomon, Guglielmo, Ashley Phillips, Micky van de Ven, Brennan Johnson, and Alejo Veliz.

While these signings bolstered the squad, the high-profile departure of Harry Kane to Bayern Munich for a substantial fee marked a significant shift in the club’s dynamics.

Additionally, Spurs witnessed the departures of several other players, including Sergio Reguilon, Joe Rodon, Djed Spence, Harry Winks, Alfie Devine, Troy Parrott, and Dane Scarlett. These changes have paved the way for a new era at Tottenham.

They have remained busy even after the transfer window shut. They agreed deals for two centre-backs, Davinson Sanchez and Japhet Tanganga.

While Sanchez left on a permanent deal, Tanganga went out on initial loan.

And now, Alasdair Gold has shared further details about his loan deal and his future.

Speaking about the defender’s future, Gold said:

“Japhet Tanganga, he hasn’t played yet for Augsburg.

“If you weren’t aware, his loan is a loan with an option to buy that becomes an obligation if certain criteria are met.

“I have a feeling one of those maybe if they stay up in the Bundesliga, but a good move for him.

“Bundesliga is a good league for young players to go there and develop and that will be good for Japhet.”

Tanganga made his Tottenham debut in 2019 and has played 50 times for the club.

However, the academy product found it difficult to break into the first team and struggled for regular football.
