Tottenham make decision on the future of 28-year-old ace who could ‘push for an exit’

By Saikat -

Giovani Lo Celso could look to part ways with Tottenham in the summer despite talks of a new deal.

Lo Celso’s move to Tottenham from Real Betis hasn’t gone according to plan. The Argentine attacking midfielder has had multiple loan spells away from the club over the last few seasons. While Ange Postecoglou decided to keep him in his squad for the ongoing season, the Australian manager hasn’t handed him enough first-team minutes.

He has only been on the pitch for a total of 590 minutes across his 22 appearances. The 28-year-old is reportedly unhappy due to the lack of game time and Alan Hutton believes he might push for a move away from the club, even though the North London club are open to offering him a new contract.

While speaking to Tottenham News, Hutton said: “He might push for an exit. I think everybody wants to play football week in and week out and I genuinely just don’t see that happening for him so as a player is it basically going to come down to what are your options?

“If he’s got options to go elsewhere where he feels that he’s going to get that game time that’s needed, then I feel that’s something that he’ll look at.”

Lo Celso has only started in four matches throughout the ongoing season and despite not having an important role in their first team, Tottenham are ready to offer him a new deal. They are keen to begin contract renewal talks with the 28-year-old whose current deal runs until the summer of 2025 as per recent reports from Football Insider.

Hutton feels the Argentine midfielder will not be happy to stick around as a squad player even though Spurs want him to. The North London club have been playing an attractive and attacking brand of football under Postecoglou and most players would want to be a part of it, but Lo Celso needs to play more often.

It seems that Hutton expects Lo Celso to push for a move away from the club because he is not going to be a regular starter at Tottenham next season either. The former Real Betis star will look at his options in the summer and if there is an opportunity to join a club where he will have regular first-team action, it would be surprising if he moved on.
