German journo claims to leak Spurs shortlist of four “secret” contingency targets

By Rob S -

Christian Falk, chief football writer for Bild, has claimed that Tottenham have a “secret plan B” should they fail to sign Willian Jose this month.

A recent report by The Guardian named Real Sociedad ace Jose as Tottenham’s first choice in their quest to recruit a striker to provide cover for the injured Harry Kane.

But talks between Spurs and Sociedad have become “complicated”, Falk has suggested.

Falk revealed on Twitter that Tottenham’s four alternative targets are Wolfsburg’s Wout Weghorst, Leipzig’s Timo Werner and Dortmund duo Paco Alcacer and Mario Gotze.

Spurs have also asked for the assistance of football super agent Pini Zahavi, according to Falk.

The first thing than jumps out is that Werner and Alcacer are probably much better strikers than Jose, so why are they part of plan B?

And also how does Falk know so much about what Spurs are scheming?

The answer to the second question could well be that all of the targets are Bundesliga-based, i.e. on Falk’s patch.

Right now, with just under a week until Deadline Day, I’d take any of the above.

We’re doing what we always do – negotiating with multiple targets so that we can walk away from any deal if it doesn’t suit us. Levy doesn’t want to be held over a barrel for one particular player so goes after a few different ones.

I think the Polish striker is our main target but Timo Werner would be great.

I’d take “arrys wife as a striker right about now.
