Manchester United legend Gary Neville recently offered his perspective on Tottenham’s direction, speculating that chairman Daniel Levy might be preparing the club for a potential sale.

Speaking on It’s Called Soccer, Neville suggested that Spurs may be positioning itself to attract a major investor—someone capable of bringing the level of financial investment seen at Premier League giants like Manchester City, Chelsea, and Manchester United.

Gary Neville: Daniel Levy is trying to sell the club

The former right-back believes that a new owner with substantial resources could elevate Tottenham’s competitive edge both in domestic and European competitions.

Highlighting Spurs’ limited trophy wins over the past decade, Neville remarked on the challenges the Lilywhites have historically faced in achieving consistent success. Nonetheless, he noted that with Ange Postecoglou now leading the team, the club could be on the cusp of cultivating a trophy-winning mentality.

Achieving silverware in tournaments like the FA Cup or League Cup, paired with a top-four league finish, could reshape Tottenham’s profile and increase its appeal to potential buyers.

Neville said:

“If Tottenham had won four trophies in the past 10 years, that would be a fantastic period for Tottenham. If Ange can win an FA Cup this year and build on that with maybe a League Cup or a top four finish, that’s a successful period.

“You’re up against giants as Tottenham. They’re probably trying to sell the club I would imagine, they’re probably trying to bring in this huge owner to fund the team and spend the money that the Chelsea’s the Manchester United’s, City’s and Arsenal’s have spent. That will not happen under the current ownership.”

This theory gains traction with Spurs’ recent interest in attracting new investments, drawing attention from notable figures such as Amanda Staveley.

Staveley, a British business executive with influential ties in the Middle East, has experience in football investment, having been instrumental in leading the Saudi-led takeover of Newcastle United in 2021.

She initially held a 10% stake in Newcastle alongside the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF), though she and her husband sold their remaining shares earlier this year. This move has sparked speculation that she may be considering a new venture, possibly with the North London outfit.

Further fuelling the discussion, Staveley was recently seen at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium during an NFL game between the Chicago Bears and Jacksonville Jaguars.

Her presence has intensified speculation about her potential interest in Spurs, with further reports suggesting that Levy could be forced out in a hostile takeover as well.

Tottenham will benefit from a well-capitalised investor who could help the club pursue higher ambitions.
