“From everything I understand…” – Reliable journalist makes big claim regarding key Spurs man

By Mehdi Gokal -

As he begins new contract talks with Tottenham Hotspur, Alasdair Gold has admitted that Antonio Conte is happy at the club.

It’s been reported that Conte resumed contract talk with the club on Monday and drew a list of conditions for the club, including complete backing in the transfer windows.

Conte took over a struggling Spurs who replaced Nuno Espirito Santo who had a difficult few months at the North London club. He went on to guide them into the top four beating rival Arsenal to the last Champions League spot.

And they’ve picked up right where they left off this season. Spurs are fourth in the table heading into the mid-season world cup break, and they have also qualified for the knockout stages of the Champions League after topping their group.

It all looks positive for Spurs, with Alasdair Gold now claiming that the former Chelsea manager is ‘happy’ and ‘re-energised’ after the short break and is expected to ‘put pen to paper’ on a new contract deal at Spurs.

In the latest episode of the Gold and Guest Talk Tottenham podcast, he said:

“From everything I understand, Conte is very happy, been re-energised after that very nice holiday and there is a hope that he will put pen to paper on a new deal. Of course, we know the club have got an option to extend it by another year anyway. The current one he signed back in November 2021 ends in this summer, after this season.

“But Spurs do have that little safety net – as much of a safety net as you can have with Antonio Conte as your manager, because he is a man that will just head off into the sunset if he doesn’t like things – but it’s going to be a fascinating week.

“It’s one of those where you’d love to be a fly on the wall, because I’d imagine there’s going to be a lot spoken about that will never see the light of day.”

The fact that both parties are now in new talks indicates a willingness on both sides to resolve Conte’s long-term future so he can focus on the issues at hand on the pitch.

Conte has previously stated openly that he is supported in the transfer market and that he still requires more signings to ensure Spurs’ squad is good enough to compete for silverware, so transfer plans and funds will most likely be near the top of his priority list before signing a new contract.
