Former Tottenham man ‘thankful’ he has ‘never worked’ with £42m Spurs ace

By Saikat -

Tottenham Hotspur were recently beaten by Bournemouth in the Premier League and defender Davinson Sanchez was heavily criticised for his performance after the game.

The 26-year-old Colombian international was brought on as a substitute for the injured Clement Lenglet and Sanchez put on an error-prone performance for his side.

The £42 million ace was directly responsible for two of the goals Tottenham conceded and the player was booed off the pitch by the Tottenham fans.

A lapse in concentration from Sanchez allowed Matias Vina to score Bournemouth’s opening goal of the game and then the Colombian passed it directly to Dominic Solanke, who put Bournemouth 2-1 up in the game. The defender had to be taken off around the hour mark.

It has been a difficult season for Sanchez and he has struggled for regular football at Tottenham.

Sanchez is unlikely to get regular football at Tottenham, and it would be wise for the two parties to part ways in the summer. It remains to be seen whether the former Ajax defender can secure a permanent move away from the North London club.

Former Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood has now shared his thoughts on the poor defensive performance from Sanchez and he has revealed that he is thankful that he won’t be managing the 26-year-old.

“The defending has been like this all season,” said Sherwood (h/t HITC). “It’s amazing they are still in the position where they are in the league. They shoot themselves in the foot time and time again.

“Sanchez here, it’s a lack of concentration that. It’s just rolled under his feet. Porro dribbling out in the wrong area. I think Lloris even comes rushing out. He makes his mind up.

“You can understand it’s a lack of confidence because they booed him when he come onto the pitch and they booed him when he got substituted. It’s not great for the boy, but you understand the fans’ frustration.

“Sanchez’s positioning (for Solanke’s goal). He’s trying to get back. He is doing his best, then he just toes it into the path of Solanke and he finishes it brilliantly.

“But I feel for the lad. I really do. He’s a good guy apparently. I never worked with him, thankfully. But (you have those days).”

Sanchez is clearly lacking in confidence and belief right now, and it would be better if Tottenham decided to take him out of the firing line and let him regain his rhythm on the training ground.
