Mauricio Pochettino has refused to rule out a return to Tottenham in the future.
Pochettino, who spent five years at Spurs, is set to visit his old club as Chelsea manager, making it a highly anticipated reunion.
The former Spurs manager spent 5 years at the club transforming them into a side that finished top 4 consistently. He came close to winning several trophies with Spurs including the Champions League where he eventually lost to Liverpool in the final.
He was strongly linked with a dream return to Spurs in the summer before Levy signed Ange Postecoglou, a decision that has turned out to be a remarkable one so far.
Pochettino who was a fan favourite at Tottenham ended up joining their London rivals Chelsea instead.
Speaking ahead of the game, the Argentinean refused to rule out a future return to the North London club.
He said:
“Hopefully, I can stay here [at Chelsea] until I die! 20 or 25 years, but you never know in football. It [Tottenham] is a club, for sure if I’m not working, maybe if they want me one day, why not?
“Who knows? It’s a club like Southampton or Espanyol or Newell’s Old Boys. It’s like life, you never know what is going to happen tomorrow. We need to enjoy today and I think now at 51, I am thinking more about that, enjoy today and not look too much into the future, in the long term. But, why not?”
His comments may have left some Chelsea fans annoyed but Tottenham fans will not care much at the moment.
They are flying high under Ange Postecoglou who has made quite some impact since being appointed in the summer.
He has Spurs playing some of the best football in the league and are unbeaten so far. A win tonight will take them back to the top of the league, 2 points ahead of Manchester City.
We are just 11 games in and but there are murmurs about Spurs being potential title contenders.
Regardless, whether Pochettino returns to the club in the future or not is a discussion Tottenham fans might not be interested much in at the moment.
