Former Premier League manager says he will take the Tottenham job for £15m-a-year

By Mehdi Gokal -

Former Premier League manager Harry Redknapp has once again voiced his interest in the vacant managerial position at Tottenham.

While discussing the current managerial situation at Spurs and their prolonged search for a new permanent manager, Redknapp told Beyond The Pitch Podcast that he is ready to take the job.

However he stated that he would want the same salary that they were giving Antonio Conte.

He jokingly said (10:00 onwards):

“I don’t know, it’s very open. Who is available? I think I’m ready, I’ll go back. I could do with that £15m-a-year, that would be very handy.”

This is not the first time Redknapp has publicly offered himself for the vacant Tottenham job.

In a recent interview with TalkSport, he admitted that while it is unlikely that Spurs will offer him a job, but if they did, he would be willing to return to manage the team.

He said:

“It’s very, very unlikely that they would come knocking, I would be truthful, but if they did, then of course I would go back and take it.”

Redknapp managed Tottenham from 2008 to 2012, during which he led the team to a top-four finish in his first full season as manager, securing a spot in the Champions League.

The team enjoyed a good run in the competition the following season, reaching the quarter-finals before being knocked out by Real Madrid.

Redknapp secured another top-four finish in his final season, but was ultimately sacked in June 2012.

While Redknapp’s tenure at Tottenham can be deemed successful, it is highly unlikely that he will be considered for the job and he knows that.

The club have several attractive options in front of them, with former Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann reportedly favourite to take the job.

Other managers that have been linked with the job include former Barcelona manager Luis Enrique, Burnley boss Vincent Kompany and Sporting Lisbon’s Ruben Amorim.

Tottenham fans will be hoping that a new manager is appointed soon, with the start of the new Premier League season just a few months away.
