Former Premier League manager in the hunt for Tottenham vacancy claims journalist

By Bruce Grove -

Jack Pitt-Brooke says Roberto Martinez is in the running to become the next Tottenham manager.

Spurs fired Jose Mourinho last week and made Ryan Mason their interim manager until the end of the season.

The Lilywhites are expected to name a new manager within the next few weeks.

Several names have been linked with the job and Pitt-Brooke has now added Martinez to the mix and claims that he would love the former Wigan and current Belgium boss to get the job.

He admits that Martinez is currently attached to the Belgian national team but says he might fancy a return to club football at the end of the Euros later in the year.

He also believes that Martinez’s track record with young players makes him a candidate that Spurs should really consider making their next boss.

“Roberto Martinez is a name that I’ve heard in connection with this job. Of course, he’s the manager of Belgium at the moment, but I imagine he’d fancy a return to club football after the Euros,” Pitt-Brooke said on the Ornstein & Chapman Podcast.

“I’m a big fan of Martinez, I think he’d do a really good job, he plays football the right way and he seems to have a decent track record with young players, so in that sense I think he’d tick all of the boxes, but I’m not sure all Spurs fans would agree with me.”

Having made Mourinho their manager and still not ended their trophy drought, Spurs will hope their next appointee finally brings success to the club.

Martinez is a good manager. I’d be ok with that appointment. Won’t change a thing though. We are still stuffed. And any manager will know this. I don’t see why anyone would want to take the job because they will end up losing their reputation.

I think the stuff with Everton is a bit unfair. They were very good the first season he was with them but then Jagielka and and the French guy who’s name escapes me got too old and over the hill.

Unless he brings half the Belgium team with him I can’t see us winning much with him.

This isn’t such a fantastical link for me. I see him as competent, did quite well with Belgium. I’m not going to say the ‘P’ word again, but boy, he should have been given time and backing to rebuild rather than go through all this cr*p…

ENIC OUT.

Oh we are making up names now, so how about Guttso, Flick, Valverde or how about Enrique. Its all tosh at the moment.
Club is likely putting out feelers who they might get and then you’ve got agents putting out their clients name.

We can’t get them fit a lot of this dross they needed to be removed from the team ASAP they irritate me big time look at this punk Dele busy with his hair while the team is mess just get rid of them and promote 4 or 5 young talents from the academy and start making a team of 6 or 7 1st team + plus young blood from academy and buy 3 or 4 new players you have old experienced + academy + fresh new players good to go.

I say Levy should start clearing his Poundland leftovers that been accumulated for the years before even thinking hiring new manager I can’t stand a lot of them.

Somebody who could get the players fit. That would be a good start.

If money is no object, it could be Rodgers.

If money is going to be an issue, we’d be looking at the likes of Howe, Allegri or Benitez.

Either way, I think the next appointment is going to disappoint a LOT of people.
