Ferrari To Tottenham In January Makes Little Sense When One Assesses The Facts

By The Boy -

In an ‘exclusive’ from 90Min, centre-back Gian Marco Ferrari is put up as a January panic buy for Tottenham. ‘Panic buy’ is my addition, but I’d be curious to listen to an explanation to this suggestion that doesn’t smack of urgency. Andrew Headspeath for 90Min makes the case that Alderweireld is out of action for a few weeks, and that one can strike a line through Davinson Sanchez’s name opposed to through it, dues to lack of game-time under Mourinho.

Toby Alderweireld will be back in a few weeks. Beyond that there is also the small matter of Joe Rodon and Japhet Tanganga to consider. Does José urgently need another centre-back? Neither Joe or Japhet have been able to get a clear run of games, and it is far from a guaranteed that another comparatively inexpensive player – and one from a foreign division – will be an immediate success.

For my money, Tottenham have enough in the backline to see them through to the summer and I would not be surprised to see Kim Min-jae’s name resurface next summer ahead of other names.

LoCelso and Tanguy potentially offer lots of creativity, movement and flair, just look at their highlights reels pre Spurs. The main question is, how much do they have the shackles off in a Jose side?

Lots of other managers prefer more possession and possession of the ball in the final third. You just aren’t going to get the best out of creative and flair players over 90+ mins if you insist on a ‘low block’. That’s ‘playing defensively’ in English by, the way…

I agree Kim Min-Jae would be a more viable option in the summer, if Skriniar is no longer wanted? (Which I suspect is the case, given his asking price). THFC certainly aren’t desperate for another CB.

I expected exactly that from Lo Celso. And I think many other people did

Yeah, but what about bringing Wimmer and Fazio back? I also heard that Stambouli became a very decent CB too! More players like these please!

I would imagine we will be operating a sell before we buy in the summer – especially at centre half. For once…I am actually struggling to think of what position is in most need of recruits. Not to say that none of our squad could be improved, but look all over the list and each position either has 2 decent players, or has recently just bought one in, and not likely to get another sanctioned by Levy. If we had the City/Chelsea/Liverpool board, we could easily pick a good handful of players that need to be upgraded, but where we are, I am struggling. If I could pick ANYWHERE, I guess a ball carrier in the middle, but its hard to deny Ndombele is actually starting to fill that role nicely. I guess the way Jose wants to set up, perhaps we need another defensive minded midfielder? I do feel that the next position improve will be in the centre of the team. For as much as anyone will try to argue for or against the “Jose way” of playing, we still lack a spark player, one that can get the ball, turn on a sixpence and change defence into attack quickly…I still find Ndombele a little slow to get going as he prefers to carry over pass.
