Neil Ashton for The Sun believes that Jose Mourinho is on his way out out of Old Trafford and potentially, that it is Mauricio Pochettino that will be replacing him.
Well, the Portuguese’s troubles are well documented and if you want the short version, then kindly refer to Manchester United’s current Premier League placing.
However, that’s about it as far as a Pochettino switch is concerned. Maurico has indeed been sounded out – in as much that Sir Alex Ferguson opened a line of dialogue with him some time ago now.
Sources close to Tottenham Hotspur Football Club tell the Harry Hotspur blog that no approach formal or otherwise has been made. In fact, this is being dismissed as spin out of Salford to offer the Red Devil’s support some hope, that wheels are at least in motion behind the scenes.
Pochettino has considerable frustrations to deal with – not least of which being the manager of the only football side in Europe’s top 5 leagues not to have bought a single player in the last window – but this would be out of the frying pan and into the fire time.
The Argentine has invested several years in England watching his stock rise and rise, without even winning a trophy.
Why undo all that good work by leaping onto a falling star?

We are short of a central midfield of merit, we lack cover up front, our creativity is stifled (especially without Eriksen), our full backs are not up to the formation Poch likes. So basically we need at least 1 decent cover for kane, a real creative spark on days when Eriksen is not at the races, possibly 2-3 central midfielders that are worth a damn with at least one being a defensive midfielder and either 2 new full backs or a new formation/style of play. so yes, we are way off! Do you really think we could match City over a season?

They don’t this season, and they wont unless they change their mentality in the market from scatter gun to scalpel. Its not what we spend that needs to change, but how. Levy needs to stop bargain hunting. All this, plus City need to have a blip, if I am honest, any club that cant spend £300m will not be champions in my view until we get some sanity back on the “sponsorship” deals city get.

If competitive means outbidding Arse and Liverpool for players, I’d optimistically suggest the third year after Harry Kane’s retirement. Realists will say that’s building false expectations and we should not be expecting the project to reach fruition before the mid 2030s.
It’s already happened. Kane’s earnings have sky rocketed. He is reported to earn 60 million minimum over the next 5 years, but I’m absolutely certain he will earn more through commercial deals and merchandising. Also, Spurs have generous performance related bonus schemes in place for players which boost their wages considerably. The loans for the Stadium have been ring-fenced freeing up funds for transfer and wages, however, I doubt we will pay the ludicrous prices quoted for young players.
January is known to anyone with a modicum of common sense as a very difficult time to sign quality players.
In order for this Spurs side to improve via transfers then only players of superior quality or at least on a par with what we already have will suffice.
No top players ever move in January unless under some fairly unusual circumstances. Being out of favour or demanding a move mid season because they’re trouble makers etc. Of these rare examples, what percentage are those that Spurs either need or want?
Also, integrating a player into your squad mid season could be disruptive, if from overseas them adjusting to the English league immediately is rare… I could go on.

I hear you brother. Even as I was writing about the need for a big January I was wondering if I had become delusional. For me the acquisition of a top class defensive midfielder is an absolute must if there is to be any chance of CL football next season. I have seen two players who would fit the bill nicely (early 20s, end to end battlers, good distribution) but their clubs will only sell at the right price, which would mean a record breaking outlay from Spurs in both cases. What are the chances of that happening? Slim to none I fear, so it’s probably bye bye Poch.
I am honestly trying to think what Levy can do in January to take away what he did in the summer? What players are we thinking Levy will need to land? Or are we thinking half decent plus some VERY early signs of signing before summer opens? Plus new contracts? Realistically, I think the bare minimum is beyond Levy now.

I have lived in Manchester too, Salford – to be fair picking moss side as a representation is like picking world war 2 as an example of not living in France.
I think I his head has already been turned. Come Jan and no transfers specifically in. I think he’ll be gone next summer.

But one of the Sun’s (Lol) journalists doesn’t need a drink to talk Bollocks. Their journalist has printed a piece of utter garbage, nothing unusual there. The piece concerns the future of the not so ‘Special One’, Jose (I want my Mum) Mourinho, who has recently signed a five year 8.5 million a year contract.
The journalist (if we can call him that) speculates that Man Utd will offer Levy 40 million for Poch, Loooooooooooooool. I can’t stop laughing. The maths don’t add up. You pay off Mourinho, that’s 42.5 million, not including his staff. Buy Poch for 40 million off Levy and give him a 5 year contract worth 40 million. That’s a grand total of 122.5 million without additional contracts and redundancy payments to background staff.
There is no way the Man Utd owners and board would sanction such a deal. The so-called ‘Special One’ may no longer be Special, but mark my words, Mourinho will be there at least until the end of this season and perhaps longer if Man Utd’s fortunes improve dramatically.
Besides that, Poch is not stupid enough to take the Man Utd job. Man Utd are in total disarray. It will take a few seasons for them to be serious contenders for the Premier League title. Whereas, Poch is moving into a World Class Stadium. He has the use of a World Class training ground and an excellent squad of players (that’s without potential new additions), who have bought into his philosophy.
It’s sheer lunacy to think Poch would give that up to start all over again at an ailing Man Utd. The days of Man Utd and other clubs poaching Spurs players are over, unless players want to leave. I think i would be more surprised if United attempted to even enter into any dialog about this with Levy. I also think that gone are the days when people like Berbatov did anything to get a move there as soon as it was even whispered. Personally, i would be absolutely gutted, firstly because i think Poch is the best manager we have had since Burkinshaw (Who i think would have achieved greatness with us if only the powers that be at the time had any sense and kept him at the club), and secondly, to attract a manager who would take us to the next level, knowing that he had his hands tied by A) Levy B) constraints around spending on the team due to the stadium debt, would be nigh on impossible. I think one thing is certain that united are beginning to look to the post Jose era. Whether that happens during this season, at the end of this or next season, is the only question.

That having been said United are almost certainly hunting for someone to replace Maureen (as he is known in Manc) this summer. He has shown bad judgement with his acquisitions (even interest in Dier for gawd’s sake), his team has no shape going forwards and he is failing to develop the youngsters.
I am certain that Poch has been on their radar for some time now and another fruitless window will have him sliding towards the exit. We have seen how he holds a grudge against anyone he thinks has betrayed him and Levy hung him out to dry completely going into this season. So it probably all hangs on what happens next month. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.
I would be shocked if Poch does not go there this summer or the next at the least, however, your sources seem to be good so I have faith. I think United would be a good fit for Poch, and Poch for united. a club that likes to think it invests in youth, but happy to spend if required. a club desperate for a manager they can invest time with, not just money. It would be an easy sell to the fan base that Poch needs time as evidence at Southampton and Spurs supports this (both better sides now than when he arrived), and they could easily argue that neither of us or the Saints gave him the money he needed to kick that little bit more. I honestly think the only thing that will keep him at ours is Levy spending enough to make Poch happy (and also dispel or support the theory that all he needs is a little investment – until that little nugget goes, big clubs will always fancy him).
