Fabrizio Romano: Spurs have ‘verbal agreement’ in place with La Liga giants for 27 year old ace

By Mehdi Gokal -

Tottenham have agreed to talk to Barcelona about a possible permanent deal for Clement Lenglet at the end of the season, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Lenglet has settled in well at Spurs after joining on loan from Barcelona in the summer. Compared to the other centre-back options, has had perhaps looked like the most reliable option.

However, the Frenchman has yet to secure a place in Antonio Conte’s starting lineup, perhaps indicating that he has yet to fully adjust to life in the Premier League.

When asked about his future at the club, Lenglet gave a slight hint about the possibility of staying at Spurs beyond his loan period while claiming that it was too early to discuss.

In the latest episode of the Here We Go Podcast (12:20), Romano has revealed that, while Spurs have the option to make the the defender’s loan deal permanent, the London club has a ‘verbal agreement’ with Barcelona to discuss the potential deal next summer.

Tottenham will most definitely be in the market for a new left sided center back considering Lenglet was only a stop gap signing because they missed out on all their primary targets.

But if these reports turn out to be true, Lenglet could very well sign for Spurs permanently and in return the likes of Ben Davies can be expected to leave.

Another centre-back that Spurs have recently been strongly linked is Italy and Juventus legend Leonardo Bonucci . The reports suggest that the veteran is unhappy at his current situation and wants to leave with a move to reunite with Conte an appealing opportunity.

He will be a very shrewd signing from Spurs since they’ll be getting a very experienced serial winner on their side.

But he is also expected to be a stop-gap signing with Spurs’ primary target said to be Alessandro Bastoni who they’ll reportedly pursue in January.
